Max power for 4x4 cossie transmission

if you apply the power gently, 400 brake is not too much
but if you have the power coming in with any sort of peak in the torque you will be looking at money being spent on it

the mt75 doesn't like torque simple as
i went through 8 boxes in about 3 years, one brand new fully rebuilt box lasted me 23 motorway miles before it gave up
i was going up a hill though and i did push about 390 lb/ft of torque through it at the time

martin @ reyland has the best idea putting the gtr gearboxes in, they are a good box and will take 500 hp no worries and be launchable at pod aswell.
the 6 speeds are even better but more costly.

It's 3rd gear that's the main issue
Don't know why
I killed mine big style just by normal driving. when I changed into 3rd and put 440 lb/ft it pooed its self
But it was fine banging it off the limiter and sliding my foot off he clutch peddle

Being honest here i drive like a cunt half the time in mine and killed 4 boxes in 4 years (third gear x3 and snapped main shaft x1) before deciding to buy a stage 1 CTS gearbox. That lasted 6 years (main shaft failure)and i'm now on my second which is still going strong.
My advice, buy an upgraded one.
~340bhp same torque..

Boxes are crap, diffs are usually ok. You're playing with fire at stage 3 in my opinion, but what i will say is that if you have a nice box that DOESN'T leak oil and has been treated well it will last a lot longer than most.
People give transmissions and other mechanical parts a bad name when they break, but often they've been abused, 20 years old and not been serviced properly or at all. Some boxes appear to stand up to the abuse better than others, it's a lottery really.

I blew my box the first day I had it, replaced with a low mileage escos one and it's been fine since, that was 4 years ago, it's probably on borrowed time but, I stayed on the standard clutch so maybe that's what's helped it.

so is the main reason people go 2wd from 4x4 because of power restrictions due to weak box??????? (spose aimed at people who have done the relivant swap)
but iv got a project in pipeline that i want 4x4 yb but doesnt need to be more than stage 3... so am thinkin of gettin shot of the 2wd stuff, is this a bad move?

2wd also drives better than 4x4, and it's a shit load more fun with it!
The 3rd gear thing is because 3rd is the first gear the engine will make full boost and power due to the loads, and if you bring the power in from low down the rev range, 3rd is in the torque band for a LONG time and it just can't cope, if you make sure it's revving quite well before planting it in 3rd, they do alright.
