Default Thoughts on engine

I'm now running standard cvh n it's slow my mk4 diesel golf out pulls it I have cossie management n big inter cooler n a 4x4 hybrid turbo running 1 bar and a real nice head it's just to slow

So I'm wanting another forged engine so do I rebuild my forged 2.1 Zvh or do build a forged cvh.

When my Zvh was running it fucking pulled like a train so thoughts guys cheers

zetec all the way, its the head that holds back a cvh
thats why zvh's aren't that common now, zetec's just flow much better

rods yes, depends what pistons are fitted to the zvh block
obviously a zvh is a zetec bottom end anyhow
but if its had pistons designed for a cvh head then they might not have valve clearance for the extra 2 valves and head design
if they were originaly designed for a zetec then they will fit ok(as long as they meet spec/size etc)

Zetec
But you'd need wasted spark in your ecu to run a coil pack also!
Sitech has had some brilliant figures out of the ZVH!!

Even when these cvh engines were new fom 85' they were rubbish.

Tell that to Karl Norris or Christian Major and his pal. Cvh's can be very good.

This is the thing I'm stuck on what way to go I have Ross racing pistons and faradon rods out my Zvh so do I sell them n build a steel cvh or build a zetec turbo I just loved how Torquay my Zvh was n I heard zetecs are flat till 80 mph I'd be happy with cvh but its only 1.6 n can't imagine it ever been fairly quick or scary

Yeah but Zvh crank is knackered n blocks egged to much so Jano to my decent head and put it on a standard cvh bottom in but I just stuck on what way to go as I have never driven a high powered 16v or a high powered cvh my Zvh was a animal

I don't understand why 80mph should have a bearing on anything to be honest. An engine doesn't care how fast the car is going. It'll still produce it's power in the same manner in every gear through the entire rev range.

I have a 1.6 steel and forged CVH. It's a bit laggy as the turbo is quite big but it'll get to the limiter in 5th before I have even realised what speed it's actually doing. The same turbo on a 2 litre Zetec will be a lot more responsive as the capacity will help in the rev range where the turbo is asleep. The capacity of the engine is pretty irrelevant to maximum power but it does help spool the turbo quicker and it will produce a little more power when it's off boost.

For decent power, either engine will work. For a more responsive engine, the Zetec 16v engine is best. ZVH engines I would avoid to be honest.

i would personally buy fit a gt28rs to the cvh try that if your still not happy build a 1.8 zetec that will push the gt28 to its limit.

Can't imagine a 1.6 being fairly quick?

There are few fast 1.6cvh's out there, why don't you try and go out in one and maybe go from there?

Don't waste your time with a 1.8. Just stick with either the CVH or build a 2L Zetec. The rods should be fine from your ZVH. The pistons probably won't be as the 16v head has a smaller combustion chamber meaning that the compression ratio will go up dramatically. You'll probably need some pistons to suit which means having the block checked and machined if required.

The GT28RS will depend on what housing you have on the rear (3 bolt flange or T3 type flange). The T3 flange will bolt straight on and will just need a down pipe makingand suitable oil return/feed pipes. You will be pushing a standard CVH (and Zetec) set of rods over the limit if you run big boost on a GT28RS though so think about replacing them with a set of Farndon rods or similar if you start going above 250bhp.

you need an adapter for the gt28 lee@ devil develpoments has recently fitted one to a mates car and its fairly quick from what i hear but ive not been in it yet.

no reason for the 1.8 i dint read you already had the pistons/rods for the 2ltr block

I have a set of faradon h section con rods out my Zvh so that would be them sorted.

So if I'm right in thinking but a 2.0 zetec engine bolt my rods in and pistons and then gt28? Would that be a bit of a animal?
