By ANDY RUSSELL
A YOUTH who fell through a roof while trespassing has pocketed more than HALF A MILLION pounds in compensation.
Carl Murphy suffered serious head injuries when he plunged 40ft to the floor of a warehouse in Bootle, Liverpool, in 1996. But crime support groups are furious with the Ł567,000 award, 50 times more than a murder victims family gets.
Murphy, from Seaforth, Merseyside, was expelled from two schools after his fall. His family blamed the injuries for his tearaway behaviour. They fought for compensation four years ago and Murphy got the money yesterday his 18th birthday.
mum Diane and partner Kevin Parsons, both 36, are in jail for running a heroin racket.
Murphy, nine at the time of the fall, said: After all Ive been through, I deserve this money.
But Clive Elliott, of Victims of Crime, said: All rights to compensation should cease the moment that person breaks the law.
they'll be claiming compo next for being locked up
i fucking hate this country at times!!!!!!

that half a million quid could of been used to pay the wages of at least 10 coppers for a year.....
there was summot on the news yesterday about one police force that didn't have the money or resources to investigate murders.......
i think this country needs to get it's priorities right

"His mum Diane and partner Kevin Parsons, both 36, are in jail for running a heroin racket."
Nice family! Can see that money being put to good use when they get out!

It's a disgrace
The law seems to protect the scum and screw over the honest hard working people.
What sort of a message does this send through to people?

Hmmm if you read the whole article about this the boy (who was only 9 at the time!) was trying to get his football of the roof of the building (so was hardly tresspassing with intent) he accidentally fell thru the skylight (dumb fucker)
Although i feel for him.. he must have had some mental problems before let alone after the accident if he was walking on a skylight!
I see it was an accident but i fail to see why he shoul be awarded so much compo...
yea he was on a roof he wasnt really supposed to be there! he had an accident tough shit!

I think the Ł500,000k+ compensation is totally over the top but it wasn't the lad that ordered this amount to be paid, all he did was go on a garage roof to get his footy when he was 9 which was a silly thing to do but I think comments like he deserves to be shot, someone hoping he broke his neck and someone hoping he is now handicapped are a bit over the top.

Weve have had to put up signs in our factory now bacause the roof is over 20ft high and if a burglar fell he could sue us
.Now if i found a burglar on the floor in my factory he'd wish he was dead, or id put him up there and chuck him of again if i knew he could claim of me.
And i go to a buisness thing every month now. There are some fookin stupid laws being put forward which will be coming in the end of the year, ohh probably after the election.
And also 64% of people sueing these days are the thieveing pikey robbing coonts out there

Trespassing is a bit of a strong word for a lad in his own school at the time simply cause he hadnt paid a 1 quid subscription fee for the club he was attending at the time.
Its a nine year old lad going to get his ball back, and there wasnt enough supervision to point out to him he shouldnt, you cant expect a 12 year old to know everything.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...nt/4347573.stm
The sun have somewhat slanted the story it would appear
(and there was me thinking they were great journalists)
I think that the people on here saying that they wished a 12 year old boy at a school club who tried to fetch a ball should have broken his neck need to seriously adjust their values!

Those are two different stories, guys - the BBC one happened in Kent, the Sun's one was in Merseyside. The victims' names and ages are different, too.
The case in The Sun, assuming the information is reasonably accurate, is of course a total joke, and unless the boy required care for the rest of his life, I find it hard to believe that amount can be justified.
The case on the BBC site is more justifiable, although I would be interested to know the compensation.
