There was 1 Grey S1. The person who ordered it saw it in white and thought nah.... So he paid Ford to take it back to the factory and spray it Mercury Grey. I remember reading about it in Fast Ford years ago.

Princess Di got a black one because she was shagging someone quite important apparently (along with rugby players, and amry captains and all the rest........ ) <- Allegedly

there was a supposedly grey s1 on ebay a few weeks ago, stripped down to the shell. Not sure if its this one though?

there was a grey series one for sale in the auto trader round my way 4 or 5 years ago. i rung the bloke and he said the same story about the factory. that it was driven straight from the forecourt back to the paintshop and changed but they wouldnt let it be classed as an original colour so he had to buy it white and then have the colour changed??

There was some chat on the RSOC recently about this, it was as stated above, purchased in white and immediately returned to Ford for a full respray.

Was originally white on the V5 though.....

I used to own the car spent an absolute fortune on it! It was white and sent back to be painted mercury grey before it was registered.

Bloke called "Tony 'Mac" on RSOC owns the car now. Bought the shell & has had it painted inc engine bay and is rebuilding now. Looks very good what he's done so far.

Just a quick one for admin/mods...can we have a definative sticky topic on the "grey S1 and the red S1's and Diana's black one...and the blue Cats Eyes car". Same old questions keep cropping back and if it was in the Escort RS Turbo forum right at the top, it will be quicker for people to read it and save all the is it real/ isn't it routine. Cheers.
