To be fair over 400 bhp with matching torque is asking a lot of them!
But it really depends on how you drive some may not have a problem others may blow it up in a week lol
I did mine with 350 bhp fooked 3rd gear up and don't really drive like a twat so I went big tooth gear kit

550bhp and 531 ft/lb of torque and mines still standard and it's given some grief.

As long as you treat them kindly with gearchanges they will take the abuse from the engine. The only time I've seen gears stripped is over 500bhp and loading them up so peak torque is in for along time.

Mark how much of that was engine (or how old school engines used to "come in") or you? My old man said the exact same thing and would put a box in every week or two but drove it like a c**t

Where I've seen many a people get away with it through being sensible

Well at that time it was on 205 standard size tyres and it was a trip back from mapping at Ahmeds and when I told him it broke he said what do you expect so another box was not going back in,
Then I did the first Tremec conversion.

I don't like the gearchange mark :/ been in gav diamonds and it looks a little stiff, was thinking elite, but want to keep it nice on the road so may have someone do a straight cut gear kit!

Pro 5 Shifter certainly as good as a standard t5 change. For the first 3 months mine was as stiff as hell but it freed up just like the guy who built it in the States said it would. Mines been in since 1999 it will im sure need a rebuild at some point but i aint been able to break it nor has Mark.
It was the first Tremec conversion with bathurst gears not a factory gearset. They came out with the TKO600 a couple of years later using that very gearset.
As for the T5 mine snapped the output shaft in 5th gear as i was overtaking another car at 100+ mph scared me to death a huge bang then nothing.

I think the engine was testing out you heart as well as the gearbox that day.... I have had a few of those moments too.....

Think positive as are BOTH still here.

Why would you treat it kindly? The whole point of this kind of power is to use it to it's full ability. Mine was over 400lb/ft ten years ago, how many T5's did you witness having stripped gears then?

i dont understand the "as long as you dont drive like a twat" statement. surely if youve paid the cash and went to the trouble of going to 400bhp its going to take the occasional hammering?

Didn't like the gear change lol, did you drive it? How can you pass judgement by only observing what could be a potentially limp wristed gear change?

I used a Tremec box which was the standard practice upgrade to the Mustang back in the day and proved to be a good choice many years before people started to use them,
I remember that day also should have done a bit more with that car,

Kindly was aimed at gearchanges, if I change gear like a complete pillock I could break any t5.
I've seen and have three to four boxes a work with stripped teeth

My old man is probably the quickest guy with a gearbox I've ever seen, even being accused of having a sequential in his grp a powered fiesta on a quaife h pattern dog box () and he didn't like the box in gavs and I could see how he was getting on with it. It looked very stiff and notchy, I drove the car in and out the workshop a few times and the selection did feel stiff hence my comments,

Is that good enough for you?

I fitted the quaiffe straight cut gears in my old car ,2 years of abuse and around 630 hp and 8800 rpm launches on the quarter mile and 8700 rpm gear changes ,never had a problem but changed the oil very regular think there about £1700 for the kit but you might get a deal
