I got as far as him changing the front shocks and thought to myself "this is a bit shit really isn't it" and went to bed
From the guy selling it in eBay for £5100 and then mike "bidding him" and getting it for £4500 and the seller only being 15 and having owned it for 3 years and learnt to drive in it and only having the ability to say "yep" I thought I was watching storage wars
If you guys are saying its worth it then ill watch it again, but if its still shit you are going to hear about it

Just watched it, Cool episode. How lucky is that kid to have an mk1 Escort to rag around some field at 15! Lucky sod!
Shame they didn't keep the 3 spoke steering wheel and stuff, would of liked to seen them do something with the engine tho!
Tho the standard front bumpers should of been kept off and replaced with atleast quarter bumpers instead!

Yes... I know it is a lot of money but the shell is the best I've seen... this is my fourth mk1 and the best by far. WD did a whole lot more work, they changed the bushes, added rear tramp bars etc. The paint job alone cost £3.5k.
You can not get a genuine good mexico for less than £15k and RS2000s are currently at >£20k for a good one.
This car is 1 previous owner, 40k miles, with original strut tops and floor panels.
Anyway, if you add up what we spend on our cars over the years, everyone will be shocked. The only lucky people are those who bought mk1s in the 1980s and 1990s...

Brewski spent too much time talking and ed spent too much time saying "I've also done this that and the other" to make it a realistic tale of what went on
Did they use a new door or fill the old one? How come they painted inside the engine bay without pulling the engine out? The insides of the car were painted too it seems, and then he body shop decided to just stick everything back on again? Including the windscreen?
Too many short cuts to make it a realistical and believable episode with so many hidden things
And they said the owners wanted to see one done? So why cut so many corners?

The engine was removed and all the rubbers were replaced for full respray, under bonnet and boot.
The 'TV' cost of £8k did not include all the labour including the paint shop labour...

Just watched it after reading this thread. The young lad is funny, cant believe how little he says.
Not so keen on the yellow, too loud for my liking, but very nice all the same. Sure those seats are either Astra GTE or old Celica GT4 seats.

Mike does my head in when he wants loads off a car because its got all sorts wrong with it.Well yeah it was advertised with them them probs so take it or leave it then when he sells it the buyer tries to knock him down and Mike says why do people assume you can have money off when you buy a car you wouldn't go to a shop and try get money of a pint of milk.Errrrrr you do it all the time for fook sake.

Definitely want to show it, especially when the new engine is done! Guys on here seem a good bunch. Overall comments are positive. If the doubters see the car in the flesh, they will see how clean she is. I had her up on the ramp before buying and couldn't believe it, especially after the ones i've had!

They did a lot more than on the show, the producer said they didn't have time to show everything so they just concentrated on the brakes and LSD.

so if the price paid is wrong from the off and they don't explain it then how are we supposed to believe anything else they show in the program?
i simply highlighted a few issues that were easy to pick up, and if these issues were easy to pick up then how many other issues were hidden away?
the buyer has already said he's happy with it so i'm not saying it's wrong or it was a dishonest sale or anything like that, i'm just commenting on the program
plenty of folk do it about top gear and nothing is made of it, plenty of people understand the wwe is grown men grappling with a predetermined outcome so why compare those things to someone who can't even use ebay?

there not astra gte or any Vauxhall recaro refused to let Vauxhall use the recaro name after the mk2 cavalier sri as recaro supplied the frames and Vauxhall trimed them but used sub standard cloth and it wore through in 12 months so recaro stopped them badgeing them as recaro also when the program first starts with mike looking for a car he spots this one on ebay with bids upto £5100 reserve not met so I doubt they got it for £4500 or the guy has more money then sense

Your not wrong jason as I know a researcher looking for a mk1 for the car strippers tv show and they reckon they found one for under £2k, cant wait to see that as it has to belong to fred flintstone
