if I can never download beyond 150kb/sec and I have to wait for pages to load, what exactly is the point of a faster Internet Connection??
exactly! hence why i dont think its necessary for normal home users to use any faster than about half a meg!

My download from Microsoft on 2MB BT ADSL.

Could you borrow somebody elses router to see if it's capping your download speed?

Christian and Beccy,

to test, really test

find a few sites and download some files www.microsoft.com is a good one

( their connection could be a limiting factor so use a few different site)

if you have a 1meg link it will download at 120kbps

if you have 2meg, to should get 240kbps

here if work i've seen over 5.5meg a second

Spiky, I have never downloaded ANYTHING from anyone at anything like 200kbps, let alone 240.

Normally nearer 120, but sometimes if I am really lucky, I might see 150.

Is there a setting on my Modem or in Windows that might be wrong??

As I said earlier, I will buy a new Router once I know what is a good one. I want one that will still allow me to use P2P safely and without the shit I had with the BT one. Also, Wireless would be useful, but not if it is going to slow my connection even more (which it shouldn't, right?).
