Default Help and advice on upside down raidiator

Hi iam wondering if eny would know if you could run a car raidiator upside down. So the top hose would now be the bottom and the bottom hose the top. I have purchased a brand new alloy raidiator. And then butcherd it cutting of brackets and rewelded them into a different position to make things neat and tidy under the bonnet. So I can't send it back now

And the muppet part comes in when I did this with out an engine fitted and unaware of whitch way around they were ment to be. Eny advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I've also considerd if you can't run them the wrong way around. Running two stainless pipes from one side of the rad to the other top and bottom. Would that also be an option that would work

you could run one upside down yes so long as it didnt have an integral radiator cap, i dont think you could run the pipes on the same side unless it was designed to flow that way as you wouldnt get good flow through the entire radiator

Ok thanks. It doesn't have a integral cap on it. I have an expansion tank fitted. The raidiator hose tails are one at the top on right hand side and one at the bottom on the left hand side. But for my engine they were the other way around so now the water pump would be fed from the top of the rad instead of from the bottom and thermostat the bottom

If the rad is turned upside down then the hose fittings will stay in the same corners, nothing to gain from doing it. There's nothing to stop you piping it up across the engine bay though. I moved the rad back on my XR4x4 to make room for the intercoolers but the top hose fitting on the rad fouled the power steering pump pulley. I fitted a rad with the hose points opposite to standard and ran new hoses across to them. It works fine.

Yes exactly I can't just turn it around either. So would pipeing it across the rad be a better option than running the pipes to the wrong ports do you think

No there isn't eny on there. But I could maybe fit one on a T piece with the fan switch that screws into the rad if you think that I would need one

Think that will be the best option to be honest and could end up looking pritty cool with stainless pipes

Yes it is that coast going on twin cam. A recent search of eBay has also showed me that they do make the radiators the other way around aswell for the twinky. Dow I didn't see them at the time of buying mine and didnt no whitch way around they were on a cossie

No thats not really what I was getting at, however seeing as there are none it wont be a problem.

But, check that, as the rad is correctly orientated, the bottom coolant outlet is right at the bottom of the rad itself, (I've seen some that are halfway up) otherwise when you turn the rad upsidedown it wont be at the top. Then you'll never be able to bleed it properly!

Could you not just cut the pipe tails off and reweld them where you want?

Yes I could do that I've. I've already moved the mounting brackets on it. And on the intercooler along with changeing the angle on the cooler ports
But didnt realy want to move the rad ports if it would work the other way round. The alloy isn't the best on it to be honest witch I noticed when modifiying the other bits
