so far on me RST i have bayjoo 195 chip (16psi), GRS I/C, pace rad, Magnex and K&N panel filter!
going to cam it up now i think
which do i go for? was looking at the piper 285 T2, reckon this one's best?
also if i buy this one can i use a Kent vernier pulley with it?

yeah ya can use any adjustable pully for it
as for cam choice we need to know the turbo and the engine ya got to tell ya tbh, if its a efi and 1600 and standard t3 then a cvh35, if a t34 then a cvh36 ( all my opinion of course
the t2 cams aint actually as good as the normal 285 cam shaft tbh but then do suffer from early wear i was told ( so dont quote me !!)
hope that helps

IMHO the 285t2 pushes the power band a bit high in a road going RST. The 285 is possibly better - but think a kent might give you better mid range.

cheers for the info everyone!
bal- that a new cam? or used?
so ideally stay away from kent and piper ones
i'd prefer mid range, dont fancy it pushing the power right up the rev range
what are these newman ones?

ok lets be abit more helpfull, newman can only make you a cam if ya give em the profiles !!!!!!!
its a performance motor remember, 20k miles is alot for em !!!!, 10k miles i think will be worng but then with most rst's they seem to spend more time in the garage/workshop/broken down or just stuck away for the winter ( september to june usually then only used at weekends, even then ya just drive to southend and park up on the sea front and stroll in the arcade to play driving games )
who ever said avoid piper and kent is talking bollox as they been making cams for years !!!!!!,
just ya need to spec a cam to ya aplication !!!
like rudeys cam was spot on for his and his driving style, for youn unless ya wanna new turbo then tbh ya will get more gains from a brand new cam shaft !!!!
i looked into cams ect with the spec of my old engine and looked at all the things i wanted from a engine and a 285t2 is only good for a big bhp motor as otherwise with the lack of boost the car will feel laggy
trust me ive looked more into cams ect even more since i have the laggiest t34 cossie in the world
a performance cam would be better with a flowed head too, meaning more boost aswell
fit a brand new camshaft and tbh will feel like a performance cam as i bet ya cams already fooked anyway as most erst cams are, there all fooking old
so in a nut shell for ya aplication a standard cam unless ya dont mind a loss in performance or ya change ya spec
the standard cams aint that bad when new tbh, think it was james raby that was the first person to check and notice the difference

ahh, cheers for all that b19bal,
so i should look into getting a standard cam, do you think i would see a bhp gain from that? as my motor has done 70k now so be getting pretty worn!

yes ya will notice a difference !!!!!
as ya said its done 70k miles, bound to be fooked imo
ya aint got a silly horse power car so a performance cam will move the power up the rev range and then ya gonna feel lag

ive also talked to alot of people about cams, nobody is sayin piper or kent or crap but thay or just of the shelf. i laso think the standard cam is very good when given alot of boost.. but performance cams do were very quick if i had to pick one it wud be the kent that was profiled by ahmed, just becus i no anythink he does is very good
my first 285t2 disintergrated and caused a load of damage, piper did do me a full refund as far as the 285t2 needing alot of boost is again debatable! i asked caslte performance this question and thay said you deff dont need high boost for this cam? even tho piper say you do

ok they say ya dont need high boost for this cam , its the reason why this cams comes on song proper
the 285t2 is a laggy cam as the power band is up higher, hence the need for big boost as a standard turbo will run out of puff too ealier to get the best use of the cam

b19al, you no i had this same argument a few years ago , and i said what your sayin mate, but more people disagreed with me than agread, so thats when i picked the phone up and rang one of the main guys from castle and when he said you dont need high boost for this cam i had to admit defeat, but i run 17 psi with my 285t2 .. holdin aroun 14 psi

i know this may sound stupid, but.... where do i get one from? does it have to be ford or do other manufactorers make standard spec cams for the ERST?

ive put my 130k standard cam back in on mine at the moment while it was running in, and to be be honest except from being a bit noisey, its seems fine and the car pulls just as good as when i had the kent 34 in.
New Standard cams are fine anyway.
