Default Plate swap to a mate's car?

I bought a car with a private plate, but I'm not really into private plates and my mate said he'll buy if off me.

I've no idea about swapping plates over and fees and whatever else I'll have to do, I'm after a bit of advice about it. The car I bought didn't come with the original plates, so I'll have to get those made up myself won't I?

And I haven't got any documentation about the plates, as they were on the car already, so will they be able to be put onto my mate's car straight away, or will they have to go on retention first?

a swap can be done there and then, both vehicles must be taxed and mot'd and you both went with either both cars or both lots of paperwork to a dvla office then can sort you out on the spot,

Nice one! Sounds easier than I thought it would be.
What paperwork will we need to bring? Just V5's and MOTs?

You'll also need to take £80! At the DVLA they'll give you a printed form that you can take to a number plate shop or motor factors to get the new plates made.
