Default fiesta / fusion 1.4 vs 1.6 tdci engines

any real issues?

is one worth avoiding over the other?

both 30 quid road tax

and via comparison sites the 1.6 is slightly less to insure for 22hp more!

most of the problems like oil starvation which is a major issue killing turbos, most of the problems are associated with the 110hp due to the dpf and poor choice of oil causing extreme carbon build up, also sludge in the oil drain, oil pickup and sump, give regular oil changes ie every 4000 miles and apart fom injector seals there should'nt be any other problems... i think the 1.4tdci is under powered go for the 1.6 have have it remapped
check my build thread for the fiesta 1.6tdci

i like driving 1.6 tdci fiestas, but i wouldn't want one.

Seen lots with all kind of random (and usually expensive) problems. Turbos, injectors, inj. seals, glow plug issues (even more of an issue when they snap) egr valves etc etc etc. If it was my money i'd get a 1.4/1.6 petrol and live with slightly less mpg but safe in the knowledge it's not going to go wrong, and if it does whats it gonna be, coil pack? thats about as bad as it gets on a petrol....

My gf just bought a 12 plate 1.6tdci Zetec s fiesta and before I bought it I asked my mate who is a Ford master tech about them and he said the only bother they see is the injector seals, bar that they are spot on.

Did you get one? I bought a cat c fusion today
Full mot and tax 70k in grey for 1000£ its knocked about but its cheap motoring so if bits in the right colour appear its good but no biggie
Seems a good car and sold the wife's 2001 scenic for not much less which is a bonus
