Default Mk6 fiesta 1.4tdci's - any good? Common faults?

My daily runner escort has just died and been scrapped so I need a new daily hack, was getting fed up of putting £70 in the escort and only getting 280 miles so think it's time for a diesel

All I do is go to work and back and drive locally most of the time so I don't care about speed etc, the fiesta mk6 diesel seems ok and I believe will do approx 550 miles to a tank that costs about £40 to fill up so that sound great to me, also the cars are £30 a year to tax as well but not the vans I have been told??? I wanted a van as i think they look better than the car but if the tax is £100 a year more I don't know?

Can anybody shed some light on these little motors for me? Are they reliable? Common faults and what to look for? Seems they have all done high milage and for a 56 plate 100k on the clock seems the norm so if looked after how long are they good for and what is expensive to fix?

Any help and previous experiences or even just your opinions if the cars/vans welcome

Thanks
Marc

I learned to drive in one. Was on over 110k by the time I passed and I know he had it a fair while after. Use Peugeot engines if I'm correct.

The vans are a commercial taxation class so are £180ish,, always check with the dvla as not ALL the fiesta diesels are £30 a year

Good all rounder though

We run a 06 1.4hdi fiesta van at work the tax is £200 a year.
It has done 120k and we have had the injector seals done and a fuel pipe changed in the engine bay.
It has been a really good van and we get upto 60 mpg out of it doing short town runs and 2x15 mile runs a day.

I had a cupra r before mine, had a little one so needed something that was cheap to run. 30 squid to tax does loads of miles to a tank n 300 a year to insure. Dog slow but not what i had it for so expected that. Mines 05 plate 31k n touch would not missed a beat. Gaz

I've got a 56 plate zetec S Tdci 1.6, spank it's arse with air con on full blast and getting 48.9 to 49.3 mpg average over 1300miles A13 and central London, M25 etc. Great little beast. I would go 1.6 as there's fuck all in it mpg wise. Injector seals as far as I know are an issue and handbrake cable adjusters fucking up giving a slightly spundgy pedal.

Great cars

Funnily enough, I put a deposit down on a 56 plate (07) tdci fiesta yesterday. It needs an injector seal doing which the garage will be doing as a condition of sale before I pick it up next weekend.

I know this is a common issue.

Can't wait to pick it up it's a lovely little car! And will cost me less to run than my little 1.25si I have at the moment

the 1.4 tdci is a good engine but as said the injector seals go bad , when you hear it puff and the inside of the car smells badly you'll know it's the seals

i am on my second one,ist was an 05 1.4.. at 37k i did the injector seals and sold it at 93k with no further issues, and its still doin the rounds now.
my second i have now with 33k on the clock i did the seals 3k ago, both times i noticed the seals i got from ford differed from the originals fitted, all 4 seals, copper washers injector clamp bolt and leak off pipe were replaced, headlight bulbs dont seem to last long otherwise sweet as a nut as what i save on fuel goes in the st lol.
