hi, i am new to this site and need some help, the full story bought a very nice ford escort bonus 90, after a couple of months driving around with the 1.1 4 speed with slipping clutch thought it was time to turbo it
so i bought a full mfi wiring loom converted a old xr3i engine with turbo pistons arp conrod bolts, victor reinz head gasket with head bolts, new rings and big end shells and lots of chromey bits lol, everything is done and runs very nice only problem i have is when the engine is not under load it revs up really nice and can hear the turbo spooling up, but when i take it out on to the open road and give it a little bit it pops and bangs and feels like no turbo but i can hear it spooling then nothing just very loud explosions lol also the tick over is very high even with the idle screw turned all the way in if i weaken the mixture it doesnt want to start ive spent a very large amount of money and i am getting very dishearted with it, any help would be much appriciated, cheers, rob.

do you have a boost gauge? i have found this in the past but only after been layed up for a few weeks/damp weather. i think it could be moisture on the hall sensor connector (dizzy). it could be that it needs a setup though.

Bit of an update fitted the earth strap behind the intake to inner wing no different then richend the mixture and advanced the timing and its running much happier but while ticking over its got a bit of black smoke, its got a 240bhp ecu manual boost controller and collins -31 actuator would it have to be really rich for the chipped ecu
