Anyone got a guide on making one for a car? My Sierra will no doubt need a new chassis leg the full length at the back in the future, and was wondering if anyone was a past tool maker for car companies? Any advice? My plan was to make something that lined a chassis leg from motomobil in relation so that the rear beam sits true after both chassis legs are replaced, and so it doesnt crab... I will try and get some pics of it on other Sierras if I can so people can see what I mean. Also, will I have to do it when the car is on axle stands, and a dolly under the rear floor, or can I put it on the jig and do it while it is turned over? Or will this kink the chassis because a major structural piece is missing.
And the reason I am asking this question is just for future use, as I plan to restore this car again at some point, but no doubt it will need new rear chassis legs! I have repaired them for now...
Thanks in advance for any advice.

you will be pushed to find chassie legs mate will have make them or just get a root free shell ,or just cut sections out that are rooten and replace
cut one side out at a time and when you weld back in bolt the beam in an shock will line it up or make a simple jig if you can weld

I should be fine with the welding when I come to do it, I'm doing a metal welding and fabrication apprenticeship later this year. And can I ask what a tap measure is?

I have repaired all those places, replacing the rear quarter atm. It has massive sentimental value so wont be reshelling, as otherwise it'd have been scrapped by now lol. And ah! Tape measure, I thought tap measure was a special tool of the trade

no problem iv repaired a few ,I use to have it all on discs as I used to jig cars straight ect ,im sure there would be some were on wed to down load it ,like say make a jig that bolts in the holes for diff and beam ,make sure holes are 100%same size as bolts and then make it so it sits on to sills or something like that,a part that wount alter when you cut chassie out ,that way the jig will be at rite height ,so will chassie leg ,if you get my poor English lol

So I should have a bar that goes across the sill, that joins to the allignment frame, so it is a clear indicator of wether it is level or not? And the holes that would let the bolts go into the chassis leg must have a very small tollerance so it cant move? just to clear up lol. And I will have a look on the net for the jig measurements, or will email fords design or history department for them. See if they will let me have em

yes if making a jig bolt holes need be 100% but could tack weld in and try beam in.with a jig I made I used angle iron over sill and the welded box across then to jig just another reference point to keep it straight
