Default State of our roads!

As usual at this time of year the heavy rain and recent low temperatures have again caused havoc with the road surfaces and resulted in the surface being lifted, holes appearing, edges crumbling away and subsiding, but if the condition of the roads at all other times of the year were great then it wouldn't bother me that much but considering where I live in the south of suffolk that they are shite all year round it really annoys me!

Now if I travel just a few miles south over the border to essex, the roads aren't fantastic but a definate improvement to ours so it all comes down to individual councils spending and what budgets they put aside each year for maintenance, and the difference between the two has been the same for as long as I can remember.

I'm sure I read not so long ago that only 15% of what used to be known as road tax (now convieniently called vehicle tax) is actually kept back to spend on the roads and the rest is kept by the government to wank away on luxury expenses, benefit scroungers, immigrants and however else they decide to waste it instead of using it to provide services for motorists as it was paid by motorists!

Your thoughts? What's everyone elses roads like in general around the rest of the country?

Road up north/east are pretty poor condition. Lots of the damage ramaining from last year has just compounded. Pot hole on a bleedin slip road ripped a 2" hole in my tyre just the other week.

Pot holes are the worst bit. People either swerve to avoid them (which we all do) but can be a danger if you have oncoming traffic, or hit them and end up wrecking a tyre or damaging a rim. I'm quite lucky that I drive my Transit 99% of the time so it's not as bad if I'm forced to drive over one due to the profile of my tyres but some of them at the moment are so bad I wouldn't even risk it in that!

Exactly my point. If you drive through certain countries in Europe the roads are like driving on silk compared to what we have.

I'm not very far from Colchester but must admit I've not been there for a good few months but what you say doesn't suprise me.

The most we ever get treated to round here a a layer of tar and stone chippings every few years to hide the shite underneath.

Yer stone chippings are the councils favourite filler atm. So instead of bust wheels we get fucked paintwork and chipped windscreens instead

As mentioned for the amount of money us the motorist is charged for owning and using a car on the roads they should all have the finest quality surface in the world but in truth its a daily game of dodge the pothole

Our council always like to replace road surfaces then 3 weeks later either the gas/water/electric board like to dig it up for repairs/servicing.

Not long after the repairs pot holes appear.

Then your back to square one.
