thanks for the thoughts guys , jem i will not go near as my brother got work done and it failed badly , engine services , i have seen his work dont like the finsh of the bores (too rough imo) an old engine builder i once knew said about the ten pence test , he said you should be able to drag a ten pence up the bore and it should not catch at all , he done a race engine for my brother and my brother raced it with no problems ie tempeture , beding in and now i use the very same engine in my road car (2ltr pinto) and still runs perfect even tho its had a very hard life so he cant be far wrong i dont think(sadly he is no longer with us or he would have the job, engine services head skims seem fine .

has anyone used the place in glasgow? to get thoughts on finsh?

thanks

engine services are terrible, they messed up pressing in guides and never measured valve length and ripped stem seals and handed head back like that

i would use

http://www.wose.co.uk/

or

http://www.yell.com/b/T.M+Smith-Engi...ML54RY-654903/

but only use t.m smith if you are not in a hurry as can take weeks to get parts back

but very good

ive used pittcairn before only for getting valves refaced and fit some oil stem seals, they are nice chaps and seemed well knowledgeable, they only supply quality, gaskets, seals and bearing like payne mahle ect they seemed more geared towards large diesel engines there are always first buses parket out side, wouldnt let that put you off the few times i was in there were always other public customers in getting engine work on track cars restoration projects ect, they never charged me the little 3 letter word on the parts either.

as above with the t.m smith in coatbridge, the guy is good but he aint in a hurry to do much,
he done the machine work on my yb, never had a problem with his work
he does the machine work for grier sport as well so done loads of yb's over the tears
pittcairn are local to me, only 10 mins away, but they are quite expensive
and i've found them to be far from perfect a couple times
think it depends who actualy does the job in there
had good and bad from them, i use t.m smith for skimming etc now even although they are a little further away

mine is just over 400bhp with similar torque, nearly 2 years old now, still runs fine, but it hasn't
done much miles to be honest,
i've been in the motor trade for years, and built many many engines
used lots of machine shops, but he is up there with the best around
but as mentioned, just dont use the words "no hurry"
