I've had a starting issue with the focus rs recently, now I've just had a new engine built by Ian howell and fitted by a mate who owns a local garage.
Now he's had the car running but once turned off it wouldn't start (same issue I was having) the problem is no spark at all, all sensors and coil pack changed etc but still the same.
He's had an auto electrician out and they have come to the conclusion it's the switching transistor in the standard ford ecu? Anyone heard of this before or had a similar problem. It's quite confusing with me being on autronic and ford ecu etc.
Cheers

Its the autronic that is running the engine mate and that's where the switching transistor is not working. The ford ECU is running everything else on the car and not showing any faults that would stop it from running.

I am one of the lads who put it all together and its something in the autronic not switching to send the signal back to the coil. Problem is without the lead and the software to plug into read the system then it becomes a real pain. Because everything upto the actual ECU is fine and after that your stumped without the gear to plug in and find the fault.

I'm going to pick the laptop up this morning, I'll be over the garage just after 1ish. I obviously heard Barry wrong, he told me it was the ford ecu we had the problem.

I don't know which Autronic you have but mine has external ignition amplifiers, these will fail quickly if they're not cooled (bolt them to the bulkhead/chassis rail etc.) and will fail over time, Autronic tells these to fire the coils, you'll have 2 of these if you are running wasted spark on a 4 cylinder engine, this is what mine look like this and are called "bosch 008", part number 227 002 008:

Page 20 in the SMC manual shows the wiring:

Looking at the SM4 manual it's the same as my SMC, it uses these modules to fire the coils so I'd be looking at these
My car is in bits again so if you want me to send you a couple to try pm me your address then you can send them back when you've got it all running again if you want

Oh right, i thought it sounded like you had the OE system(with immobiliser) powering the autronic and you were loosing the power signal. Easy fix then would be to give a dedicated signal from non immobilsed circuit which would power the autronic and away you go.
Switching transistor in the autronic? As in ignition driver?

Right I've tried new ignition amps but still no joy, these are the codes I'm getting off the Autronic software? If anyone knows what they mean that would be highly helpful
