Default Private plate transfers

Evening Folks,

Anyone know how much it costs to re-register a car with a new number after removal of personal plate ? i.e. if I wanted to buy a car just to sell on the plate how much would it cost me to put it on retention and re-register the car to sell on ?

Sorry forgot to add, can you sell plates outright as opposed to letting companies advertise them on your behalf and then take a commission once sold ??

All help appreciated

cheers
Paul

£105 to put it on retention and you will get the cars original plate back if available.

The retention certificate will be fee free to transfer to a new car provided the
car is in your name.

Cheers mate, I dont want the plate for my car but to sell on so after the £105 if the original plate is not available (which I doubt it is) would it cost to get a new reg for the car in order to sell it on ?

If the old plate isn't available for the car it just gets assigned a different number (age related) at no extra cost

If you take the paperwork to a VRO they do the transfer the same day, it could take up to 4/6 weeks to get the retention certificate and the V5 back from the DVLA tho (if you're lucky it will only take 2 weeks for this).

The Grantee will go in the name of the person the car is registered to, you also have the option to include a Nominee on the certificate.

Basically, the cherished plate can only go on another vehicle registered to either the Grantee or the Nominee.

The Nominee can be changed at any point (think it costs £20) but again, you have to send the paperwork away and wait for it to come back amended.

Ive started doing all mine at work by post by you should send it to your local VRO rather than Swansea, this way you get all your paperwork back within a couple of days and only need to wait a couple of weeks for the cert and V5.

I wait till 4 weeks has gone then ring Swansea to chase them up if it hasnt arrived, out of the 20 or so transfers ive done in the last 6 weeks iveonly had to chase for 2 and they had both been issued days before I chased and arrived shortly after.

DVLA aren't great for lead times but they are getting better.
