fiesta 1.4 tdci

hi,my fez 1.4 tdci is very juddery below 2000 revs,its ok when put foot down but when being a bit sensible it feels as if its gonna run out of diesel,any ideas chaps?

I would be changing the fuel filter before i did anything else.Does the engine light come on?

thanks for reply,no lights on at all,checked leak off pipes as heard they are a problem but they dry,doing service after xmas so will do fuel filter as well and see what happens cheers
