Default Vauxhall Coolant Problem

Hi all.

I thought I would ask you guys on here first of all as you all have kindly been helping me for a while now and you are all full of knowledge which may help me again now.

My dad has a Vauxhall astra mk5 1.4, he was driving it the other day and went to turn the heating on, and it didnt work, then a few mins later the light came on the dash telling him his engine was overheating, he pulled over immediately, looked under the bonnet and the expansion tank was empty. He called out RAC to help him, they ran a few checks, and then filled up with water, ran it for a bit longer and it seemed fine so limped it home and rac followed just incase of there being any issues.

So when he got it home, we drained the water and put in fresh coolant, because it was due to freeze and my dad didnt want to risk it, I started it up, tried to get all the air out ect, we had suspected the thermostat to be at fault, it didnt open at all in the whole time we were running the car, then after I replaced it, it was fine.

Then he went for a drive in it to make sure everything was OK, but when he got back, the resevoir was completely empty again.

I noticed that when the car is idling, its all fine, as soon as you rev the engine, coolant is leaking out from somewhere, the resevoir seems fine and not causing the problem, the coolant it being coming out somewhere and landing on top of the gearbox, and it only comes out when the engine is being revved.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Could a split pipe cause the problem?

(I understand this is a Ford forum, but I never know, someone may know, lol)

Cheers, Jason

Lots of things could cause a water leak.

I fixed it now mind, it was a split pipe.
