Default Help! shogun sport problem!!

Hey folks i need some urgent help as im down in baku and the wife says our 2004 2.5td shogun sport is running like shit!!
She drives to tesco the other night and returns to her mothers for 30 mins before attempting to return home! she reverses down the drive and thinks the handbrake is on because its running like a slug! it was also cutting out with white smoke coming out the exhaust! she took the car to a local mechanic who changed the fuel filter and now it doesnt cut out but still runs a bit rough! the mechanic says it was a bit smoky! where i stay in scotland its sub zero temps at night and probably during the day! any ideas? i feel helpless as im offshore in baku thanks in advance folks!!!

ive since spoken with her today and she had it out last night for a spin and its struggling to get over 3k? the mechanic says the engine is sound so im guessing it could be the fuel pump? or water somehow! the glow plugs take 5 turns of the key every morning to start and have done for the past 2 years ive had the car! anything to do with that?

Sounds like it could be water/shit fuel.
Maybe worth trying some decent derv and octane booster/injector cleaner, some of the supermarket stuff is shite.
They use a lot of bio diesel which doesn't help much either.
I found putting bp ultimate in my old Nissan van stopped it smoking and gained 10mph top end!!!!

She started it earlier when i was on the phone and she says its struggling to rev past 3k! she took it for a drive last night and says it also struggles to drive! for everybodys information when cold i have to heat the glow plugs 5 times before starting the car and if i dont then it will just wind over! do you think it could be the glow plugs? once it runs its fine but starting the car even in summer i have to use 5 turns of the key before firing it up! its just frustrating cos im a million miles away and she needs the car! the mechanic doesnt have a diagnostics machine for a mitsi! im gonna cry if its needing a fuel pump lol i just managed to get the leaking oil cooler fixed a few weeks back! time to get rid of this me thinks!

Their a tough bus mind you and the pumps are pretty strong too, my old pajero used the plugs to warm the engine up a bit after it had started but that shouldn't matter once it's running.

Best getting a derv specialist to look at it first, and it's not like you can't afford it working in Baku!!!

Sorry,on a serious note it really could be anything, leaky injector, crap fuel, poor seal somewhere,a bloody million things sadly.

One of our JCB's at work had a similar fault, running like shit, wouldn't rev, very fumey. Turns out the fuel tank was about a quarter full of water lol. Is there a drain on the fuel filter at all? Could be worth seeing if there is water in it.

Yeah it's a fair bit away but it's fine when your there! It's a good laugh offshore depending where you work! There's not much of a laugh on this place I work so it's quite a long trip tbh!
