As subject. What sort of price is a really well kept example?
They seem to vary in price quite a lot. Just toying with the idea at the mo.
9k would be about budget I'd imagine. Maybe stretch to 10.. Maybe..
Thanks, Jamie.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
i would say yes you would, they are starting at about 6-7k now so 9 should get you a tidy one. Search the forum posts as there are loads on here about buying. I'm tempted to chop my dc5 in for one soon!

100% deffo but same as every other perforamnce car you will have to have a look at loads of sheds before you find a good one cause people say and genuinly believe there mint when there actually bags of shite.

My mates one is dead tidy, It's up for 8800 and he's not had a sniff. Most people are after the cheap cheap wrong uns. I'm not gonna advertise it on his behalf because the Gestapo seem really alert at the moment, but copying and pasting 321027452127 into a well known internet auction site might help you in your search

Cheers for the replies guys.
I'm thinking about taking the plunge sometime in the new year.
I have only 2 preffered choices too, which are NO gold, and NO red interiors.. I really dislike them!
Also, it's either the M3, or a 130. Will have to make sure I can afford the running costs etc too I think!
Will make sure to check out the buying guides too. Still just a vague plan at the moment.. Will have to see what happens!

Has anyone worked out a typical monthly cost to run one?
I'm not worried about fuel etc. Its more a set of discs and pads and a set of tyres. Full service etc.
I'm hoping its not a case of "if you have to ask, its going to be too expensive"!!
Will have a look on that site too, thankyou.

Tyres are a worry.
Also, what's the difference between the "facelift" other than the tax bracket?

it's the fuel costs that will kill it, i plan on an m3 when the weather turns and i trade in my 330ci, but already realising a 3.0 straight six is thirsty and m3 isn't actually much worse for so much more potential.
they are making quite a bit of sense right now and there are many good ones out there ready to be used properly.

Do like these cars, keep promising myself one but just something holds me back. I think it's the fact I rarely use my car and not sure they're that special as a garage queen.. More a special every day car I guess.
Seems odd to think they'll probably be a couple of grand in a few years. I remember buying an E36 M3 for Ł8k and it was exceptionally cheap at the time, they were Ł10k cars at the time. Found the E36 very slow though and I've never heard the E46 M3 described as fast, most people say they don't feel ast then you look down and you're doing xxxmph, which is the opposite to what I want really. Last thing I want is to spend out high performace car running costs for a slow car.
Then I start thinking maybe a convertible is the answer, extra angle with the roof off and my lad would probably love that too. See how the finances go in the new year.

All the parts tend to be M3 specific which means M tax is applied. The cost of fuel was huge. I didn't think they'd be much difference. My commute to work went from 26mpg in the 328i to 17mpg in the M3.
I'm guessing it'd be a similar story with the E46's.
