head problem
hi guys I need bit of advice i had problems with my head a year ago it started tapping, when we took rocker cover off one of the lifters were stuck when we managed get it out it scored the hole, I got a new recon head and new kent cam plus new oil pump, we had trouble getting oil pressure up on first startup , then once running it did about 50 miles tidy driving and same again one of the lifters got stuck scoring the head and fucked the new cam, what would be causing this? I have since had the bottom end rebuilt it wasnt knackerd but wernt preety, the head getting fitted this weekend so im just bit worried it going to happen again, any ideas guys?
do you have an oil pressure gauge in the car before it was rebuilt? it could have been a duff oil pump - have you used a new pump in the rebuild?
before starting this time, build oil pressure by spinning the drive in the dizzy

Hi , I got oil gauge in the car i lost bit of pressure first time, it was a genuine ford oil pump but it looked worn my mate said, so bought a burton uprated one for the second time, but have read bad things about them, there is a new one on there again now , I will tell my mate to do what you said, just gutted as that was a brand new kent cam in it last time
Are you on about a yb or cvh, i think cvh so you cant gain oil pressure from spinning the dizzy drive, i would just make sure the oil ways etc and everything is new and spotless, make sure bearings etc are all pre oiled on assembly and then once the engine is back in, spin it over without the plugs in to gain some oil pressure. I always make sure i use the cam lube supplied when starting a new engine with cam/lifters etc, never had any issues that way.
cvh mate, my mate built bottom end had block skimmed crank grinded new bearings shells rings, pistons were ok, got new oil pump so just hoping it was bottom end playing up, my mate has worked on fords for years so i trust him, he is baffled as to why the lifters jammed twice,
Just a quick tip. If you get a worn/dished lifter whip the cam out and push the lifter down and get it out that way rather than scoring the lifter bores. Cant think why you getting jammed lifters though, sorry.

It may cause it to happen if there was lack of oil pressure to the head, ive seen quite a few cvh's eat lifters, normally happens when new lifters are used with old cams or vice versa, thats why i said with a new build use the new cam/lifters and the thick red cam lube you get for running in.
my mate did last time i watched him do it i got new kent cam kit, he wacked the cam lube all over it, which puzzled him when it happend again, should be firing it up on weekend now so we just have to keep our eyes on the oil pressure and see how it goes, I got a seconnd hand head from breakers of ebay it got piper cam in it, ive droped it off to be skimmed, should we put lube or anything in this before fitting it?my mate knows what he doing im just seeingwhat you lot do?
Well I would just take the cam out and the lifters, remembering where each one went just to check condition, no point lubing up as its already gonna be worn if its used so in one way your traveling down the same road, maybe it might be worth buying a new cam kit as you've already gone this far with the build.
