Default Any cheap fix for a synchro grind?

My car has a slight synchro grind going from 2nd to 3rd gear when flat out (9000rpm). It's shifting fine, just hear/feel it grinding. I'm going to sell the car on soon and don't want to get involved in a gearbox re-build before hand.

Anyone got an suggestions for any oils or additives that may quieten it down for the time being?

Even with a decent drop in revs the grind is still noticeable and the car ends up out of the power band on the next gear.

If the synchro cone is worn out and unable to stop the gear your trying to select from spinning to enable you to select it then in a word no lol

Try a different oil.

Castrol Syntrax often works wonders in Subaru boxes that crunch. Think it's called something else now though

it is just a regular gear oil, it just works very well. Certainly worth a try.

Ive seen loads of Subaru boxes crunching into 3rd etc. Put Syntrax in it and changes perfectly again.

I asked Opie Oils for advice and they said

"The Redline MTL or Amsoil MTF are often very good at sorting out minor gearbox issues."

I was going to try one of them but decided to break the car instead.

Mine I think has loose 5th gear nut so comes out of 5th but it also really crunches changing quick when hot, tell ,e how you get on

I need gear oil for impreza too so maybe I'll buy a small drum

If it has, get it fixed asap before it does major damage.
