YEAH BUT NO BUT what about the legends built by vauxhall?

Chevette [Apart from the HS, they were owned mostly by vicars and blokes that wore lab coats to work]
Manta [ they tried to make a 2 door cavalier cool by giving it a name like "Cobra" RAR ]
Astra [if you can find a 16valver that didn't warp the chassis, or the 1.8 turbo that was rare as feck]
Nova [the legend lives on.... and now it pumps out 120DB of McFly and Girls Aloud]
Tigra [only car you can drive as a bloke and guarantee yourself gay sex]
Signum [lol, my sisters got one and she's fat]
VX220 [Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious]

Only thing they did right was make the red top engine so it could go in a mk2 escort

What about all the XR's dude?? might not be quick by todays standard, but still mostly pretty

McLaren - Anything (only done 2 for gawds sake )

Maybe not quite the same price range, but these manufacturers have made classics in their time. Cars that in 40 years will be remembered.

as well as the Capri's listed above, your missing out Mk1 Cortina Lotus TwinCam, Mk2 Cortina Lotus TwinCam, 2 door Mk3 Cortinas are rare and are certainly classics too.

also, missed out Mk1 Escort RS1600 and Mk2 Escort RS1800.

all the crayford converted tinas and capris are also good classics

who ever said a Mk6 Mexico is having a laugh though

The only ones of note from that list are Mk1 and Mk2 escorts, the Cosworths and the RS200, the others did and are nothing special.

All IMHO of course.

Mmmm ... RS Focus doesn't really count. Contract car, outside job, no Ford heritage really.

Escos was the last .... Probably our very last. Now there's a cost-cutting joker running the "special" division ... that will be the end .. Sad, but I think true.

yeah genuine JPS capri's are extremely rare, brooky 280's are cool but I think my personal fav was the RS2600 from the capri's when ford was at its best producing interesting cars with real character

I personally think Ford havent done anything that stir's the loins since the MK1 Sierra IMO. taxi's lack the character of the original 3 door and the escort cos really is cashing in on the 3 door trademark look, however they do look nice for a "modern" car

With more modern cars, with "technically" better chassis's, more efficient components and we get the RS focus (no offence to RS focus owners) and the ST170. ford might have been going in the right dierection with the ST220 if it were RWD or 4wd imo. but none of these cars really floats my boat. none of which have real looks that will set them aside from any other modern car all cars look like they come from the same mickey mouse factory

Old ford's never die..... they just get lower

And who could possibly forget the MkI & MkII Lotus Cortinas.

The Broadspeed Anglias

The SuperSpeed Anglias

The Allardette Anglias and Supercharged MkI Escorts....

The fact that Cosworth were the first to get 100BHP from 1 litre with an Anglia.

But the very little known fact that the first production car to have a Cosworth engine fitted as standard was the Tornado Typhoon, Tornado were a specialist car builder making British Sports Cars and they were based in Rickmansworth.

The 1340cc Ford Classic engines where bought from Ford and sent to Cosworth to be modified, they later used the 1500 pre-crossflow engine from the MkI Cortina.

Man this Guiness is good shit..... does wonder for the knowledge of Ford & Cosworth History....

My Dad will be gutted - he had a nearly new white Capri JPS (it was only a 1.6 though, I think they did that and a 2.0 one) back in the day.

Apparently there were very few white ones as they were mostly gold and black like the JPS F1 cars?

Cheers,

With ford, anything before the 90's ruled.

Dunno what has happened to the company in the last 15 years, they aint produced a decent car since the Escort RS and Cossies that beat most rivals back in their day
