Exhaust DB killers do work!
Cosnada failed its MOT 
one of the reasons was that the exhaust was too loud. It is an open 3" stainless system.
Without cutting it up or major work I thought I'd try a DB killer. I got a cheap one of ebay and fitted it this morning........
It quietens it down a treat. Amazed at the difference tbh. If you have a track toy and are unsure of the noise level then I would recommend you try one of these.
Not sure what it does for the performance but it can be removed easily though for tuning / setting up.

In all fairness I'm not too sure. I am only using it to go through an MOT and it will stay in the car if ever needed.
With a traditional 2 box system they tend to be fairly free flowing. This reduces the output diameter to 2"
I will not be driving it hard with it fitted - I would make my own and modify it if I had to retain one so as to get more flow. This will make it louder but this thing has seriously quietened the car down as it is.
I have seen them on track days but not took too much notice.

I would be more interested to know where the mot centre got an original noise level reading for a granada with a yb fitted from?
Can you shed any more info on :- What sort of meter did they use? what wheighting? what angle,distance,revs did they use to test? what was was the ambient db level?
Not wishing to start any kind of argument just very interested to know high the noise level must have been to cause a fail and how it was mearured?
Most of our hotrod's run v8's with straight through 3"or 4" pipes and have never come across any issues. A couple of our guys are RPU officers and have no guidelines as to any specific allowable levels for road use.

The tester said he used to run granadas and what I presented was far in excess to standard in his opinion.
I know the level is 97db. He did not use a meter.
He claims to run a mustang with a big block fitted and he has to be careful about noise......

If it were my car, i would be popping down and having a word with the tester and mentioning you are considering contacting vosa (the number is available on the direct gov website or filling in a vt17 online) and see what sort of reply that gets you.
It sounds like the tester has decided he just wanted to add this to the fail list with nothing more than his opinion, He might aswel have said "im failing it because the colour is offensive to me"!.

noise test is testers discretion if they think its loud they can fail it you can complain but to be honest the vosa guys that come out on the complaints are by the book so probably will uphold his fail, take it somewhere else or just put it in for the test job done
