But would you want it back knowing its value has been reduced even though it has had no physical damage or changes, I'd prefer they wrote it off as my insurance will increase either way!!

Only if it gets written off by the ins company which would be highly unlikely in this case or the owner decides he doesn't want it back.
With no damage most likely cat x which is stolen/rec with keys,nothing marked on logbook etc.

gear lock welded into chassis is the only physical one to normally defeat most attackers. this is legal too! I do like the idea of setting off the airbag(s) remotely though.......... In some modern cars that is a 7 of them , and an awkward one to fix with out lots of questions...........
