Standard RS500 spec - T4 (Maram shafted for the ALS), eight x 403s, 30psi just over 500bhp.

The key to it's speed is the transmission, which is same as Kev has on his - the works FFD dog 'box with the tarmac 67/33 split and proper diffs .

I think there is a further 8psi of boost u've forgotten about ,and the fact that it handles !

If you have ever been in the car Mike you would know it's not just about the transmission !

I went for a lap of the nurburgring with him, his girlfriend and another girl in his m3. It was fast and still so relaxed and sedate that the girls spent the entire lap yapping

we were just about to put his m3 against the evo when the track shut and didnt re-open before he had to head home. That would have been a mad lap

This car is actually not fast in a straight line
The Facts of the totb DVD
Gareth recorded

500m 12.4 @ 129
Max at 1.25miles 173

A certain shonky Saff with 480bhp & no 4X4 recorded.

500m 13.39 @ 129 (same terminal)
Max at 1.25miles 174 ( failed WI & a pile of shite on the day)

On the handling circuit he was Totally supreme & in a different class.
The Saff knocked over 86 cones & flipped over 4 times trying to run at half Gareth's pace , now that did impress me.

So why did it record the second fastest time over 500 metres ! Only to be beaten by Ronnies 700 +bhp Skyline !

I think the saying "up your own ARSE" springs to mind Rod !

No it was not second fastest, it was second quickest, young man.

It was as fast as mine at 500m (129mph) & slower at 1.25 miles, which is what I said.
Remember it had a claimed 70more bhp & 4x4 grip , so was prob 1.5 secs quicker to 60. You lads are easily impressed.

WTF are you talking about Phil

Theres no dispute as to the achievements Rods car has done in the hands of Mark Shead its there in black ans white for all to see .

Whats getting on peoples nerves is the fact at any given opportunity Rod rams the specs and results of his car down everyones throat and its becoming quite boring .

And Rod comparing your cars straight line performance to Gareth Lloyds ?

Do me a favour , his car suffers a bigger transmission loss being 4x4 , his car is also set up for track so his diff and box ratios will be specced to suit .

I don't know where you lot get your information from 550bhp? Nah, it's a 1.3l with windey windows and a tape deck with Dolby B noise reduction. The body stickers make quite a difference though - they're Max Power Extra Advanced Pro Touring Stickers (extra 20bhp I believe).
It also has blue washer jet lights.

It runs on Strongbow for better combustion

Rods ego can get out of control sometimes BUT in this instance, he was merely stating some facts

The car isn't that mentally fast in a straight line and there is certainly nothing special about the car from a technical aspect apart from a great gearbox.

Its VERY well set up though and the driver is simply AWESOME

I agree with Porkie here, Gareth has spent 7 years getting the car to handle well, the spec is nothing impresive at all. But WOW can the guy drive!!!!!!

I think Mike went a lap of the ring with him in his F40, now that is something I would seriously like to do. Plus I remember him saying to me that he maxed out his F40 on the A38 going home from Donny!! COOL MAN!!!

Gareth is a really top bloke as well, I have called him a few times for advice and he has always gone out of his way to help me.

It does make you realise that Rocket Ronnie can push a car about, too. Coming 2nd in a Skybus against Gareth on the handling circuit was an impressive piece of driving.

Thirded.

Rods right, its not mega fast in a straight line, and the figures quoted by Rod was his old RS500 spec engine too, not Rods current one which has about 200brake more.

But like Rod also said, that car is absolutley awesome in regards to handling (and driver!).

Rod is always showing off, but on that occasion hes right, as a striaght line car, G.L.'s escort isnt as amazing as some people think, its a track racer, not a drag car.

I would just like to point out that it makes 550bhp only in qualifying form (38psi), but Gareth runs just 28-30psi in normal use, which is around the 500bhp figure, and this was the boost it ran at Donno / TOTB etc.

Personally, I think that given that and the transmission losses, 174mph is pretty respectable .

I don't personally know a better driver, but Gareth's supreme skill is not evident over a standing start, this is just down to the power and transmission, hence my comment .

I have been in the Escort, F40 and M3, so feel that I CAN comment on this .
