cams snapping and premature wear is almost always caused by other factors and not the fault of the cam manufacturer. the CVH has a few problems in the cam department which include:

bent head - cam hard to turn! cam can snap or seize causing big expensive failures.
Oversize camshaft housing - lots of these heads came from the factory with larger cams fitted, be careful that you don't stick a normal cam into an oversize hole, or you'll end up with no oil pressure and a worn and noisy cam
oversize follower holes - same as above really
Lack of maintenance - gummed up oilways in the head can cause a lack of oil to the cam lobes, make sure the head is properly clean before fitting a new cam!

there are probably other things that often go wrong in the cam department, but its late and i cant remember everything

at the end of the day, a cam is a cam, kent/piper/newman wouldn't still be in business if all of their cams were made of shite. you just need to choose the one that suits your spec best

the only thing with the newman cam and followers is the price companys charge for setting them up, PE charge around £700, rst engines suffer with heavy breathing and poor oil circ which is why they tend to eat cams and lifters all the time, Matt (guzzler) knows his stuff so listen to the wise

Heard of people suffering accelerated cam wear with the Newman as well. Always used Kent cams and found them to perform and wear very well. Newman seem to be the current benchmark for CVH cams and I'm itching to try one out.

Newman aren't 'that' great. There hydraulic cam was ground wrong so i got 0 oil pressure (undersized journals - and no mine isnt an oversized cam head). And ive just replaced a ph4 n/a cvh cam which was pitted to fuck and two solid lifters had holes in the base. Newman couldnt explain how this could happen. FYI i ran 1.8 idle oil pressure which is nearly some kind of record for a cvh
Kent seem to be alright as long as you run them in properly and have decent oil pressure. The hardest thing is finding decent hydraulic lifters these days for the kent cams

ok this was in 2004/ 2005 - I ordered an Ahamed bajoo cam for the fiesta RST for kent the first 2 they sent were bent the 3rd was uneven - ended up with a newman one - right first time! Also used Newman's for a vernier pulley as they could hard anodise it for me thus giving the lightness of aluminium but the wear qualities of steel! (2010)

newman cams also gave me realy good cusomer care - Aparently I am the only person to ask for this on a cam pulley!

can a standard cam and vernier pulley be used together with positive results. i know the std cam has a reasonable profile and if 200hp is the goal then is it viable. would be used with a stage 3 t3. the cam in my car looks as good as new, same with lifters. something of a novelty on a cvh these days.

I'm currently on a standard cam, but looking into upgrades... Maybe a Kent CVH36, as it seems to bring the peak bhp and torque in sooner than a standard cam?
Ive always ran Kent in my NA engines, the last one cover 30k+ miles with a set of their own lifters and was still silent when i took the engine out!
Newman do get good reviews, and ive spoken to them on the phone and they seem to know their stuff!
