Default Best luxury barge for under a grand?

Morning all! I'm after a bit of Champagne motoring for lemonade prices when I get back from tour! Looking to spend approx £1000 on a big old luxury car. Something that's like a sofa to sit in, nice and smooth and a bit of carisma.

So far i've been looking at...

Audi A6
Jaguar XJ6
Saab 9000 Aero
BMW 5 series.

MPG not really an issue. I have owned an XJ40 XJ6 in the past and thought it was great for the cash, also had a couple of 9000's and really enjoyed them, especially the ease of tuning.

Audi A6 is currently looking like a lot of car for money. Anyone with experience of them???

I think if you know what you're looking for then an early X300 XJ6 is the way to go.

In that price bracket, most will be sheds, but there will be a few good ones out there. Steer clear of the early XJ8's as they can be problematic. The straight six is pretty bullet proof and they're a million miles better than the XJ40.

It says the price is £2995, he's just put £999 to avoid paying fees or paying cheaper fees or whatever it does on cars under £1000

I'll admit I missed that the first time but I reckon if you chopped the back boxes out and let some of the v8 noise out you'd gain some!

Rubbish picture, but looks a proper bargain and would leave a few quid over from the approx £1000 budget to go towards sorting out the few little issues.

One of the worst things with buying at the bottom end of the market with these is rust, but this apparently doesn't have that problem.

I should be saying the 9000 seeing as I own one but mine isn't that refined now lol. Tuning aspect of them is good though, weighing up whether to go the next level or sell up. Was surprised at how composed mine is on the shit roads round here and the ease in eating up motorway miles (360bhp and 380lbft helps though lol).

I've been sorely tempted by the XJs in the past and do keep looking at them in the classifieds etc. their rep (deserved or not) has made their prices really attractive for what you get.

I thought about the omega before I even opened the thread. Although I think I'd prefer a BMW or Audi over that

I agree with some of the suggestions so far, I'd be thinking along the lines of a 7er BMW, Audi A8, Saab 95/9000, (Old) Merc E/S-Class, Honda Legend, Lexus LS/GS, Volvo S80 and Mazda Xedos 9.

Cheers,
Grant

Only it's analogue TV which has been turned off so it's a useless screen. My brother has found this out on his 54 plate M3

can get 12v incar freeview boxes that can be retro fitted, have had one a good few year now, cost around £50.

some of the new ones, also have a USB input, for a memory stick allowing mp3/4 playback, or a memory card slot
