Default Whats the MFi "3 wire trick"

heard about this lastnight... bodging the loom up on an MFi ERST engine so it runs off 3 wires...

not even ueing an ECU...

so what exactly do you connect up, and just HOW bad is it...

im gessing youd never get it to run "right" as you'd surely have no overrun fuel cut and no WOT enrichment... either that or it's run rich as fuck everywhere except full throttle?

and presumable it's be det city if the ACTs got too high?

my old xr2 turbo was also running this set up,,

was a magenta colour 1 which was featured in revs years back (about 97)

run fine while i owned it but i heard it took the bloke who built it a few engines to get it right

was a pukka little car running about 170-180bhp with no problems at all in the few years i owned it

but be warned no 1 wants to touch em mechanicley wise for fear of blowing em up

so im asuming its a vacum system and if so whats the actual fueling like,

not a dig at ya mate greg but my mate wants a xr2 turbo and hes wondering of the whole picture

what wires ect are swoped

no pon the reason why is quite obvious , its cheep and does seem to work for certain aplications , cant argue with that as the peeps who have had it will agree it works , just like 5th injecotors ect, i wanna know how it works as there must be a down side more that just theres no saftey stuff, i was thinking of is the igniton correct ect as i can see why ford would fit all that ecuand stuff when a bit of speaker wire would be ok ( hypotheticaly speaking )

i got banned from the saxo website for saying that the evo7 coolers are not needed for 7psi as there aint gonna have that high acts' to cool down at 7psi and also got a slating for my talking about narrow band afr gauges being pointless in turbo aplications and a trader on there claimed i was talking shite and he said that a alpha narrowband IS sufficiant to set up a turbo cars fueling ans when i asked did he use one he never replied and i got banned , i felt like the guy people laughed at when he told the everyone the world wasnt flat but round

they was like "nooooooooo, hes telling us stuff i dont wanna here, get rid of him, hes ganna cause a revolution on saxo's ,grap ya torch and pitch fork and lets ban him "

So, basicly your running an engine with no engine management?

Just the K-Jet meterhead to provide the fuel, no warm up enrichment, fixed ignition advance, no knock/high act spark retard etc.........it may work, but it cant be big, or clever!

That is the way The Grp A RS16i Touring cars ran, they also had a seperate switch to turn on/off the cold start valve

phil, thats what i'm thinking... but surely you'd get NO ignition advance/retard? as i thought the ECU did all of the spark calcs? i mean its not got a vac capsukle on the dizzy or nuffin

Exactly Jim, it will just run whatever the dizzy is set to. (Ie, constant X degrees.)

So the car will essenitally be setup for WOT only id imagine (if it isnt, may end in tears )

Baring in mind though the turbo engine had been in the car best part of 30,000 miles i am led to believe. Although its obviously a very crude way of doin it, it DOES work, as chicken said he ran his like that for a few years.
Still the application of speaker wire in the engine bay wasnt too impressive

It tells me that it works and does the job depending on what you want it for. It allows 180 bhp or so, how much power would you want in something that weighs as much as an anorexic quaver!
Saying that if i did buy it i would convert it to a loom just saying though it does the job. Like 5th injectors, it works! If it aint broke, why fix it!
