Default Friend accidently done for no insurance - need help before at crushed.

Guys can you help me help my friend, looking for advice on this. Split up with her lad but renewed the I range and was still registered to her old address.
She was driving the other day and it must of come up on the anpr as not being insured... This is the text I got.
They seemingly sent me a letter asking me to confirm details such as no claims bonus, i've definitely not had that letter, (went to her old place) and cause i never replied they cancelled the policy and i had no idea!

Today I got this text

My day has gone from bad to worse! I don't have proof of ownership of my car graham has it...and he's disposed of it! Have called dvla and it's takes 5 working days for them to generate one then 3 to 5 days for me to receive it in the post...my car gets crushed on sunday if i don't get it before then and i can't get it without proof it's mine!

I have said for her to tell dvla to fax something direct to the police to avoid the postage time but don't know what else to do??
Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thank you

i thought you only had to pay a fine to stop it being crushed? shouldnt need proof of ownership to pay the fine surely? maybe to take the car away again you would need proof of ownership

From the timescales you have given it seems extraordinary for a car to be crushed.

I would say if he is the registered keeper he has opted to release rights to the car hence it being crushed.

Your 'friend' needs to find proof of ownership a V5 is not proof of ownership of said vehicle.

I think we are not being told something here. I would ask your friend to be more honest in regards to this situation.

i used to take thses away
to get it back you need to prove insurance and pay the fine and use the paper the cops gave
wether they want to see a v5 is another matter, we didnt but we wanted them gone again before i stripped the bits off and ebayed what i could

if it should be insured then take it to court and the court will repay any fines but you cant assume insurance was paid
ive only heard its been sorted if the insurance have said its no insured when their renewal states it will autorenew if they dont hear anything and then decide to not renew themselves

I thought it was very quick as well but I don't know these details as she is texting me them. I will pass on what you have said, so possibly phone the yard where it is and ask if she can take away once the fine is paid and insurance is sorted without having to produce the v5? What else may constitue as proof of ownership?

I am sure the person collecting the car will need to be the owner on the V5? Not going to release the car to anyone... or would they?

I wonder if house bills and stuff like that would do as it would surely be on the data base as the recorded owner?

This is the latest from her...
I've called the police and they're saying that they won't give me the release notice to take to the garage unless i have proof of ownership, insurane and my licence...i told them they could do a check on the car and it would come back saying i was the owner...they're saying they can't do that i have to have a paper copy! So i've called dvla it's going to take days for that to be sent...plus it'll be sent to the old house as i haven't changed the details...i'm having a nightmare!

That's bollocks mate
The police have stopped my mrs several times and the first thing they ask is if it's her car and she says no it's my husbands
Then they are if she's got a full uk license and then they says fine, we checked already on the computer we just wanted to make sure you were who you were and then let her on her way without checking any documents at all
The last time they asked her to turn the wheels from lock to lock to make sure they cleared the suspension as the wheels are listed on the mods so there must be someone sitting in front of a computer not being arsed to do their job as everything can be checked very very easily and quickly

That sounds like I'm slagging her off, I'm not, it's just the way it's come out on the phone
She should be making a big noise down at the station because someone isn't doing their job of checking things out
They have just fobbed her off

You can try.. Modern policys dont and specifically say tht they cannot be used to release the vehicle from impound.

It takes 2 days for a replacment logbook i know as i had to have one sent out a week ago.

As already said the V5 only states the registered keep which (as it says on it) is "Not necessarily the owner" so how can they ask for that as proof of ownership?
IMO the only proof of ownership is an invoice/receipt obtained at purchase.

Been done for it before( I was insured btw, was error) if your insured then it won't get crushed, you may have to pay the extra storage but tell them

Ps: my logbook turned up in 3 days butt was no address change

If the car is legit they will sorry of help,,,,, as you will be paying for it and it takes fucking ages queuing to get the motor back, my car turned up 2 hours after I arrived and they charged me a extra day as the car was taken off me at 11:35 at night butt they don't open till 9am and my car arrived at,,,,,,,, 3pm in the afternoon !!!!!
