Need a bit of help..

Im going to pick up my s2 escort tomorrow and my insurance starts at 00:01 tomorrow morning, ive just tried to tax it and it wont let me, i imagine its because i dont have valid insurance at the moment..

my question is, if i tax it online tomorrow morning then will it be instant and do i need anything apart from v5 to tax online?

i havnt done it for a little while and im panicing that i cant pick it up because of tax!

You need to have a tax disc in the car. Just incase you get stopped

V5 will need to be in your name and current address to tax online. You get 5 days grace regarding failing to display the disc in the car. As long as it is taxed, the police will see it on their database as taxed.

You really should do some research instead of posting incorrect advice.

https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/Ev...ions#question9

When you apply for a tax disc online or by using DVLA's phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive.

Not if the old disc has expired. Car has to have been continuously taxed.

The important bit in your post is the bit that says
"When you apply for a tax disc online or by using DVLA's phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive.

If the car had a disc he wouldn't need a new one. The previous one has been cashed in or expired more than 5 days ago, so he doesn't get a grace period from failing to display. Best thing is to go to the Post Office with the new keeper bit and the MOT and insurance, and tax it over the counter, then pick up the car.

If it ran out 31 May or earlier it isn't continuously taxed for him to get the grace period. It specifically says: "This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires."

If it runs out 30 June it is still current and he doesn't need to buy a disc to take it home.

Simply really before he drives off in the car take thg log book and his insurance and mot to nearest post office and purchase new tax disc there and they will send off the log book for him . Or if the present owner is still insured on the car ask them to tax it at post office first before he collects car

Exactly what I did when I bought my bike. Guy I bought from taxed her for me once my insurance was valid, he had the logbook in his name and the MOT (hadn't been taxed for a while so no reminder available) insurance in my name. Made no odds, as long as everything is legal. Once done, I rode her home.

Simple.
