1.9 xr2 on 40's

i want to build a camper and i want either a lwb med/hi roof tranny but could live with a well designed t25
i wonder if there is a possibility to fit a more efficient engine such as a passate style tdi
and any other info you may have
i can do the interior with no hassles but i know absolutely nothing otherwise
this on looks a bit of a ratbag but is solid and once painted i could install windows, a pop top or extended roof etc but its engine less atm

Nissan used to used them at one point and I think the small turbo escort cossie used them too! correct me if I am wrong please ?
