switchable maps
is it possible for an ECU to hold two seperate maps?
eg; one for 91 RON fuel and one for 100 RON.
and if it is, is it possible to switch between the two?
(please lets not discuss the pros and cons between Autronic/SECS/L6?L8/P8)

If this is to do with cossies....
It is possible with extensive modifications and only the select few can do it on the factory ecu's.
However, if its only an ignition change you require,
the ignition is easiliy retarded for lower octane fuels by linking the octane connector.
This can retard the ignition by 2, 4 or 8 degrees depending on the car/ECU and chip fitted.
This will of course need proper testing with DET headphones on the new fuel
and also would probally require a boost drop to be safe too.

Oh and yes S8 does it !

Hyperthetical situation.
Take a cossie to the states, you can use 91 ron but also have available SUNOCO 100 ron fuel at the local drag strip.
Could you fill up with the good stuff, switch over the map and have fun.?

GARETH T, With that method, it is easy to do on the factory ecu's too !
And way cheaper than a T6
Fit a chip with twice the memory size, load both programs and switch the
high order address line LIVE to change maps !!!
You would of course need two chips with suitable maps for each stage
that have a common base operating program.

GARETH T, Still a valid way of doing it though !
I soldered two on top of each other before (one with proper flamer map in it
)
[TECHIE ON]
Then gated the chip selects through some NAND gates (reverse logic dont forget)
via the original ecu chip select output.
[TECHIE OFF]
This is more complicated than the bigger chip way BUT works equally well

We do this modification for almost any ecu that uses an Eprom for its run software as long as it doesnt do live checksum comparisons.
No problem at all for the old cossies.

These guys market one for the grale which uses a very similar ecu, i cant believe you cossie boys havent got this already as your so well catered for.
