Default Vaux or any mechanics

Rebuilding a z12xe corsa sxi engine and basically somebody else in the workshop has compressed the lifters in the vice to empty them without me asking. I dont think they are meant to be compressed or emptied. When i put the car back together it sounds fucked. Tappety rattling like a tractor. will this eventually quieten down ive had it running for over 10 mins already.

it is generally a good idea to slightly commpress them but they may have fucked them if they done it too much!

With those hydraulic posts, they can get stuck if you compress them too much and would cause the rattle. They should be springy after you've squeezed the oil from them.

In my experience with lifters in general you should strip them down(as in remove the collect from the top an upturn them) as just squashing them in the vice will push all the crap out past the seals hence knackering them in the process

with most lifters thats the easiest way, but these are small hydraulic posts that most people cant take apart without buggering them up. they're a bit like a minature version of the cvh, or vauxhall 8v ones

i'd take the rocker cover off to see if any have stayed compressed... if they have, either replace them, or carefully unstick them if you can work out a way

get it sorted before you rev it up and it throws a rocker off

I would never build a hydraulic tappet head without compressing them, get all the old oil and crap out, its a hard lesson to learn when you rebuild one and then the tappets stay open holding the valve off its seat = no compression.

it will quieten down once its done a few warm cycles, i did the same engine a few weeks ago.
