RWD OR 4X4 ??
Buying a saff in the near future and to be fair ive never really thought bout buying a 4x4 want to be hanging the rear out with rwd etc !! but as a whole which is better ? no differences part from traction , leather really ? spending bout 6k roughly what should i be looking for ? no 1/4 mile junkie but do the odd sprint for fun !! anyt tips troops

done a 0-6- sprint in my 4x4 and surprised myself by doing it in 3.91!!
my mate who has a 2wd with the same spec didnt get anywhere near, too much wheel-spin!!
but i must admit he seems to really enjoy going sideways everywhere so each to their own i suppose!!!!

I prefer RWD as its easier to have fun in, tho it can be a pain in the arse not having traction sometimes, but if people actually ran decent tyres and decent susp setups then it wouldnt be a huge issue (it was for me, as like most others, i did fuck all about it).
TBH a big reason i dont really like Cossie 4x4 is its not very strong, so you break it dead easy with good power.

2wd box is VERY good
4wd tries to put grip down, which is does, but launching kills them and 3rd gear will go pop when full boost in 3rd.
350 really is a safe'ish limit for them, but depends how you drive
350 and 2wd box is good all day long

personally i prefer rwd
but dont mind 4wd aswell,especially in this sort of weather,but then saying that you naturally slow down with rwd ( or you should anyway,but then you should even with 4wd )

plenty of rear end fun to be had in a 4x4. good handling setup will eliminate any understeer personally i do not have issues getting the aRSe end out but then again the engines peak torque is produced at 3k
I've never driven a 4x4 cossie b4 so i couldn't comment on them, but i'm a torque junkie and like lots of torque and as low as possible and my blown V6 XR4x4 (same drive train essentially) is still lots of fun just keep that pedal planted as the back end will swing out if you lift off round a fast bend been there plenty of times coming out of junctions you will get the back end to step out easily but thats childs play, even for a 4x4 and with the rain in the is country you'll be praying to the rain gods in a 4x4 as it's so much fun and you'll still be quicker than everything else on the road

I ahve had both mate, and I prefer the 2wd. It is loads more fun, nicer to drive, easyer to work on, cheaper to tune etc. Its all personal choice at the end of the day so I would say drive both. And as for sideways action, it is easier in a 2wd but you can deffo hang the back out on a 4x4 without much problem.

interesting topic.How many people seriously pain ther 2wd in the rain and how many only bring them out on dry days..................4wd is more expensive for gearbox's admitedly but just as fun if drove right.

Look at it this way, on this board last year I dont recall any 4wd cossie being smashed up, now compare that to 2wd
4x4 for me, my bmw 5 series scares me a bit and thats only 210bhp

steve your probably in the minority then. Most people that pain them in the wet end up smashing them up from gettin over avorishous on the loud pedal hmmmmm that sounds like fun to me.

RWD is good fun,but if you drive it like a twat in the rain/snow,you WILL stuff it.
Have had mine ages and had no dodgy moments in it,maybe i drive like a tho.
Can get the back out pretty much on demand but actually prefer not to cos they can snap out of shape VERY quickly. Traction is shite in the wet,and i'm only stg.1. Drive both,see what you think.

RWD for me, purely on the basis that I thrash the crap out of it on track, and I can't afford the upgraded transmission of a 4x4.
Cost prohibitive........... plus I just love RWD on track where you can really push the car..........

RWD all the way. Never been a big fan of 4x4s. They have their place and each to their own, but love being caught out. Nothing like it to waken you up and teach you how to drive sharpish lol, though pain in the arse when you need to get up a hill in the snow.

I think, if you want fun then 2wd by all means...BUT if you want mega performance and real hard driving il say 4x4, ok....i know the Transmission is gonna b sky high but depending how deep your pockets are

Just remember mate, until you get used to it you may need all the road- The saph is a long bitch Aim for the white line and you wont go far wrong Didnt use my 2wd in the wet much, but I did make a point of gettin in out in the snow- As much fun as a guy could have with your clothes still on

im on stage 3 with my saph 4wd and it has 231000km now....
last year alot of guys smashed there 2wd because they thought they could drive....WRONG.....if you think you can....you cant..
sure...an upgrade 4wd box is very expensive.....
you can have lots of fun in a 4wd car also
