Cost prohibitive........... plus I just love RWD on track where you can really push the car..........

Rwd for fun, but above 400bhp, 4wd for faster progress.
I loved my Sapphire in the wet - 45mph, in second (which in my car was good for over 100mph) at 3500 revs, dip the clutch, rev to 6000, drop the clutch and go "snaking" (mind you, you could do that in the dry as well ).
Point to point my Escort (despite being heavier and less powerful) would KILL the Sapphire, but for fun factor the Sapphire was hard to beat (leaving two black lines as you accelerated past people from 45mph to 80mph is something that is just addictive). Properly set up, a 2wd can "handle" better than a 4x4, it just doesn't have the mechanical grip to be as fast.

cheers, price isn't too high for the transmission!! What kind of BHP are we looking at which standard transmission will cope with being thrashed most of the time??
Thinking of getting a 4x4, keeping the bhp fairly low till I get the transmission uprated. LOADSSS of grip

Keep to 803 (green injectors) and the gearbox should be okay (providing you don't launch it everywhere).

I've done about 10 event's this yerar and kicked Scoobies ass all the time on tarmac. Even Subaru Driving School guys were shocked with rear biast 4wd handling - completly different story. Cossie 4WD system works in my opinion much better on grippy surfaces. Different story with loose and snow, on snow COssie is too much oversteer, at least mine, maybe with stroneger centre VC and front LSD would be better.

I went 4x4 as it was the most powerful car id ever owned, and also ive never driven a rear wheel drive car atall, even a low powered one!
I didnt fancy learning in a car that powerful, but now im used to it i will convert it to rwd if the box ever gives up

4x4, safer in the typical British weather, and you can still kick the arse out big time as I found out coming off a moist roundabout on me way home from an APT tune

RWD is only dangerous is you have no idea of what you are doing , if you drive them properly they are awsome, and teach you a lot more about balancing the car through corners and throttle technique , a lot of peolpe stuff 2wd's and blame the car, when infact they were driving like tits. but 4x4's are awsome as well, so either is an option, but for me 2wd all day long
