i do like the scooby and evo and really would consider one as a everyday car lightly tuned of cause but since i saw clarkson introdusce the escort rs cosworth on top gear many moons ago i have really wanted one. i will have one one day even if at the moment things have changed with having a baby and getting married in a weeks time
The cossie can sit in the garage waiting for the sun to come out while the evo or scooby will be used everyday. I thought of getting a standard escort cossie for everyday use, is anyone here doing this
Would you swap your high power rs's for a bike?

Scooby is a better handling car than the escort cossie, the escort looks far better. The scooby now is a good replacement/upgrade for the rs turbo owners. Cause they start from £1500 these days and a mint example can be had for £8-£10000. Wouldnt bother with the newer ones though.

Azrael,
I totally disagree.... because that is excatly what Subaru and Mitsi are prepared to do and have done. Even though rules have changed these 2 maufacturers have still got the balls to produce rally based road cars (STi, Spec C, Type RA, MR, FQ etc etc) which is my exact point.
I am certainly not bitching about any car being crap (for fook sakes I have owned 4 performance Fords ), it's just that some people have such blinkered vision, that they can't bare to admit that the current crop of jap performance cars are awesome bit's of kit, and maybe, just maybe better than the Cossies.
I'm sorry, but one guy "giv'in chav large" on here owns a foooking FRST..... so what flaming room has he got to slag off Jap cars!!!
Some of you guys make me laugh!

They are much more modern for sure and just drive better in almost every way. The only advantages of Old Fords are that they are no nonsense so no electronics, EURO NCAP's, seat belt buzzers, cupholders and everything that makes them lighter, and they have some awesome engine. But suspension wise and transmission Ford-Cosworth cars are 80's cars! They are just old, I do love to drive Escort Cossies and I think they are really great cars but they are just old. It's pretty astonishing they still keep up ith more modern cars at times but generally world has moved. Out of the box STI Scoobie ist faster, more comfortable, more economical and more reliable at the same time. Think about completly factory Ford - I never drove one but at 0.8 bar boost it must be really slow...

xr2i-carl,
Your from Essex and you drive a FRST... so your forgiven for thinking that anything outside of the world of cossies is unknown! :cry
All you have to think about it what colour of Burberry your next cap will don!
Azrael,
A Factory Ford Escort Big Turbo cossie is very sloooooooooooooooow.... perhaps not as slow as a T4 standard RS500 though! (Ok thats wrong as they are both quick cars, but you get my drift)

Cossie's are classic cars now.
Most jap cars are to new become classic's but i think some jap cars:
impreza evo skyline rx7 supra are on it's way to become classic cars of the future.
I love japcars and cossie's.
And cossie's are very good of tuned and setup the right way and you push can the cossie futher whit new tech and engineering.

Cossie's are classic cars now.
Most good jap cars like impreza evo skyline rx7 gti-r are to new to become classics.
You can make a very good car of a cossie whit the right mods and chassis setup.
And time wil tell of the jap cars wil be classic cars i think they will become classic cars.

RS500,
I am certainly under no illusion that the jap cars will ever have the classic status or heritage of certain cosworths.
One of my mates stated my RS500 was a much better car than a previous Escort Cossie I had.... purely because of what the RS500 stood for by way of it's heritage. While I agreed with him to a degree, and no matter what BHP it had or condition it was in, in was still an old Sierra! Even if it was a nice one.

I think you wil find cars like the evo and impreza will lose their appeal pretty soon ,with cars like the BMW 130i,330T and poss an M2 (05-06 E30M3 equiv) people will deffo preferr the style and quality of BMW,trust me these jap cars will become a thing of the past.
On the other hand Ford will be back i reckon and if they use the 5cyl turbo it should be very strong and tuneable-doesnt need to be Cosworth,so long as they have 4wd to back it up
Evos and scoobys are boring! i nearly bought a evo8 but since iam a driver will take a good rwd anyday. If iam wrong then why do the owners of these cars sell them on so quickly and buy elises and other good drivers cars that need skill to drive fast

So if your not a "commener" what are you, cause you sure for shit cant spallll
What part of "I have owned 1 ERST, 2 Escort Cossies and a RS500" do you constitute as me being a blinkered Subaru owner prey tell??
"come to my house you insignificant wanker my house im sure is 3 times the value of yours"
And there was me thinking half term was over.
Lucky other people I know from Essex seem to have slightly more mature conversation then a baked bean.
It's quite amazing that certain individuals have to result to personal insults when they clearly don't have the intelligence for mature conversation or banter. But respect where respect is due..... you can at least spell wanker correctly. Please ask your boss at McDonalds to give you another gold star!
Now please run along and get down McDonalds...... the rest of your chavettes are waiting for you.

Being 18.. im still dreaming about a cossie, my dads had one, and loved it, then he grew up and bought a vectra
Personally though, i prefer cossies to evo's etc because ive grown up wanting one. Maybe when i eventually get one, i might think, 'what the fuck am i doing with a 15 year old car, when i could have bought a newer one, with better spec for the same price?' Who knows, i'm determined to get a cossie at some point in my life, until then, i keep on dreaming
On another note, this is presicely why i want ford/cosworth to build some more proper RS's! so the youngsters can grow up wanting one, like i have! Focus RS is the only modern ford that the young of today can look forward to owning, and no offence to focus RS owners, but it's not (in my opinion) a patch on any cossie?!

Carl,
Just fancied a change. The RS500 I had was in pristine condition and I didnt want to drive it for the fear of damaging it...... so hence I have bought the Scooby as the weekend blaster, as come rain or shine I can give it a good ragging, which worrying about the rain or the RWD killing me to death!
Tiff,
And I bet you had about 20 burgers that size from McDonalds!!!
