Diesel insurance

are they more expensive than the equivalent petrol to insure, i've never owned a DERV, despite being a diesel engine test engineer

been looking at 5 series and did 2 quotes back to back and the 530i was ovber £100 cheaper to insure than the 530d
got about £4-5k to spend on a new 5 door daily...ideally would like a diesel as the economy on my FRS was shocking so would be nice to have something that does mroe than 250 miles on a tank full

i cant understand why diesel cars are more to insure i have 13 year no claims my passat tdi 115bhp cost me 800 pound to insure not paid that since i passed my test compare that to other 1.6 and 1.8 petrol cars i have owned i paid half the amount in insurance why

even with all my ncb the bmw (if i get one) will be more to insure than the focus each year
