Default Help for a 1.6 pinto

Hi lads
Im brand new to this place, just got myself a 4x4 lookalike, its a 1.6 pinto and i've heard these can be pretty easy to play around with, can anybody give me any info on what to do best, the engine has only done around 25000 its pretty decent but going on a slight incline the power is pretty poor.

Thanks for any tips, much appreciated

lee

You could turbo it a lot of people have done that but i dont know what power increase you would get on a 1.6 though most people turbo the 2.0 pinto and get good power increases

I'd be more inclined to just pop a 2.0 in insted of messing around with that mate.

2.0l pinto isnt that much quicker so i wouldnt even bother with that, ive wasted loads on trying 1.6 head on a 2.0l bottom end to increase the compression with a fast road cam and 45 carbs etc and still the power is crap and not worth the money spent, if i was you id leave the 1.6 pinto how it is or just wack on some twin 45 carbs, but they really arent worth wasting the money on in my opinion, if i went back now to when i first had the 1.6 pinto back in my sierra and knew all what ive done so far id would have just put a scorpio 2.3l engine or a rs2000 engine in my sierra as they have a good bit of torque and a nice amount of power

There lots of options depends how much ya want spend. 1.6 pinto not worth hassle esp later e-max ones. bin it find injection spec 2.0 bin injection fit twin 45s or bike carbs high torque cam and decent exhaust manifold.
other option is cheap diy turbo conversion ie rob carb+turbo off a renault 5 or similar and retro fit and keep your fingers crossed.
otherwise it a cossie transplant or 2.9v6 from xr4x4.
dont even bother with 2.8 0r 2.0 twin cam

my clocks go to 130 ( no rev counter ) an i've had it at that

i wouldnt bother, my mate spent a fortune on a 1600 crossflow and ended up with 150 hp

sell the lump if its that mileage and decent it will fetch good money anyways, i sold a tired old crossflow for Ł300 last year.

How much you talking bud?

It seems pretty straightforward, did you do the work yourself?

PS thanks for all the input lads, feel a bit deflated now i thought the pinto could offer a few more options, i was scared to get the 2.94x4 as wasnt sure what it would be like to financially run.

Either go for the 2 litre pinto swap or a cam some head work and a 32/36 webber should see benefits I'd personally go fo the 2 litre swap easy and on 1.6 diff should b nippy

Was in the same mind frame you are in... Have a 1.6 3 door... Went and bought a rs2000 motor but have decided just to keep the 1.6 in until I actually have the money to put a proper engine in (cossy turbo)

Don't waste your time tuning the 1.6 or puting a 2.0 pinto in

Bare in mind aswell petrol ain't cheap these days to run a pinto on 45s

So many options but they seem to get shot down by someone else, i might just make it sound nice haha, ok heres one more question, what system would make my 1.6 pinto sound deep, its a shame cos my sierra is in really good nick, i might have to look at the turbo option? the 45's always spring to mind i might see if i can get them cheap?

Whats the ashley sound like mcfall?

The Ashley manifold is 200, system is another 250 I'm 99% sure

Never seen a 1.6 turbo as most use the 205 bottom end plus the 1.6 never came with injection either

Really tuning the 1.6 is like pissin into the wind

They can make good power, 150HP is achiveable on the 2L without much effort at all really, namely a decent cam, and a set of Webers and thats about it.

Basically the tuning work on yours will probably involve similar, if it were me I think I would be inclined to fit a set of carbs and go from there. (Especially if you have a Ford carb)

My mates mk1 had a 2.0 that was stock internals running 40's and an ashley exhaust and 4 branch that made 140 on the rollers at the fly . Its just had a rebuild to a 2.1 with flowed head and newman cam etc so hoping for near 160 this time with a bit of luck

Bin off the 1.6 and get a 2.0 much better and get more bang for your buck with it
