yeah ive seen the cameras but again would they only be active if there is a red circle around the 50mph?! Just checking as most of the time i go over later at night and its empty!! Annoying sitting at 50 when 4 lanes are empty!

Yes, The cameras only activate when the speed limit is lowered.
We had a memo about variable speed limit when it was 1st introduced to the M25.
I would have been well and truly busted by now if that wasn't the case.
I use the M25 everyday, I have only ever seen the camera's flash when the speed limit is shown in the red circle.
They have them on the M42 and M62 now, The same applies. I have only ever seen them flash when the reduced speed limit is illuminated

ah Mark_ just see your reply to Cfosters Q, only when the red circles lite,
So you would be ok at 2am in the morning 140ish, as slong as theres no police and you dont crash?
Not that i have a car that goes that fast, just asking

From what I have seen, the only time they go off is with the reduced limit,
Loads of cars fly round well over the limit when the normal 70mph limit is in place, I have never seen them flash any other time.
Im on the road best part of 12hours a day, and often see them flash , but only when the variable speed limit is in place.
