Doesn't change anything as this has been the case on motorways for ages. They've just added variable speed limits to this section.

They will only operate when the speed limit is reduced and shown in a Red circle over each lane,

They won't flash if your doing 100mph during normal motorway service.

Any motorway with the variable limit signage can have cameras. I deal with the Highways Agency frequently

Yes, The cameras only activate when the speed limit is lowered.
We had a memo about variable speed limit when it was 1st introduced to the M25.
I would have been well and truly busted by now if that wasn't the case.

I use the M25 everyday, I have only ever seen the camera's flash when the speed limit is shown in the red circle.

They have them on the M42 and M62 now, The same applies. I have only ever seen them flash when the reduced speed limit is illuminated

From what I have seen, the only time they go off is with the reduced limit,
Loads of cars fly round well over the limit when the normal 70mph limit is in place, I have never seen them flash any other time.

Im on the road best part of 12hours a day, and often see them flash , but only when the variable speed limit is in place.
