coolant coming out of the header tank?? golf vr6
got some coolant coming out of the header tank overflow on the golf vr6 1992 obd1 when the car is being thrashed.
tried getting all the air out of the system by leaving heaters on full blow and squeezing pipes!
not the thermostat as it kicks in nice and both radiator pipes are hot (not one hot and one cold pipe)
possible headgasket? but theres no oil in the water or visa versa! ??????

you dont always get oil and water mixing when a head gasket fails i would make sure it has the correct mixture of water and antifreeze in it as the fans come on just over 100 degrees on these (ignore the guage they are not at all accurate compared to live data on a management scanner) so if it doesnt have enough antifreeze in it it can boil as antifreeze also raises the boiling point of water as well as stopping it freezing
tho as above its probably the seal on the cap as this would cause a loss of pressure in the system again causing it to boil up through the overflow

Alot of the VAG group cars share the same cap and its not a very highlighted problem, a few years ago a lad I know had quite a new at the time ibiza 16v curpa, he changed a thermostat, waterpump, headgasket and then finally the engine cost him all in around 3.5k!
I went round and pointed this out to him within 30 seconds I actually thought he was going to start crying
