look.... ive been looking everywhere and this one is in my town!!! its got really low milage, the bumpers are really icky and off colour but as in my other post i can get them sprayed properly... what do you think??
i know its not a ford, but its jsut a run around... im only 19 so plenty of time for proper cars when i leave uni!!

Its a nice clean run around by the looks of it. doesnt say whether its the 8v or the 16v? Guessing 8 Valve by the year etc. Bullet proof and wont cause you much grief. Parts are also cheap and perfomance is adequte. For a run around you cant really grumble

and about the uni thing... u guys dont have make up etc... to buy!! hehe.... its my first insurance as ive been a named driver up till now so no NCB and i dont want to be totally broke just for the sake of getting a better... better to build up NCB and more experience then when i can afford to get a decent car i can

its an 8v as the 16v were the very very late SRi's or sports as they evolved into!
they are good little cars, mate had one and it was as quick as the 16v sports!
bits to watch for are rust around the spoiler at the bottom (if you look at the tailgate it rusts between the very lowest point of the spoiler and window on each side, this is due to the spoiler trapping rust under it and it eats it way out over time! if you can see rust bubles it will be alot worse under the spoiler!
not much else goes with the 8v compaired to 16v's!
just use common sense when looking at it and if things dont look right for millage etc walk away as there are pleanty of corsa's to be found!

hey thanks for the advise... im not too bothered about it being that fast.. as long as im not overtaken by my grandparents im happy... hehe
my dad is going to see it for me and if it looks good ill go down and see it.... ill let him know about the rust.... the guy said for insurance he didnt want anyone else to drive it but my dad is insured on otehr cars and i want to see what the clutch and brakes are like as i dont want to buy a car that ive got to go straight out and sort out...

The 8v motors are a lot slower than the 16v ones, really big difference, and the 16v ones are much more tunable too, i know a guy with 180bhp N/A from a 1400 16v vauxhall motor for example.
Check the usual things, like rust, especially round the rear end as its a favourite on corsas.
Fantastic choice of a first car i reckon though, for 200 quid brand new you can buy a set of 288mm disks and calipers which will see you outbreaking a cossie into a bend, few hundred quid for a suspension kit and you'll be handling well too.
If you can get the insurance on an engine swap, for a few hundred quid you can chuck in a 2.0 16v XE, which will give you a power to weight ratio as good as a standard cossie, for a grand you could have it running a lightly modded 2.0 16v turbo, which once moving will happily keep easily with a stage 3 cossie.
Vauxhall parts are SO interchangeable that it means loads of cheap upgrades can be had

Other cheap brake conversion is a set of secondhand 256mm ones off a calibra or similar, 50 quid should secure a set for you, and they take about 20 mins total to fit, really is a piece of cake.
Reason for going for those is they will fit under 14" rims still if you keep the standard wheels.
The 288mm need 16" rims really (although some 15" rims will fit)

wow... i think if i get the car i will need a refresh on this info!! hehe im going to put my 15s on the car... therye my special wheels, so much so i limited my choice of car so they would fit which is ridiculous as theyre not expensive alloys or anything.. jsut sentimental!!

What car are you current 15" wheels from?
To fit a corsa they need to be 4 stud, 100mm PCD and an offset of around 49mm
(although on 15" you can get away with as little as 40mm potentially you will find it adverserly effects the handling if you do, causing excessive bump steer)

If they were on an ibiza though, unless they were fitted with spacers they must have looked really gay, as they would have sat too far into the arches as they use a much smaller offset.

bugger.... i got it into my head they were et45 but if i remember rightly theyre et38.. theyre at home but ill get my sis to check... corsas min is 42.. but cant u go 5 odd mm out of the offset?? do u reckon they will fit?? ill be gutted if they dont... i dont know why they went on the nova they have the same offset as corsa.. can u use spacers?? thats why they fitted my ibiza so well hehe

i forgot about that....
oh nooo... waht do i do!!! i drove my boyfriends car once without power steering and i got arm ache heeh!!! all my cars have had power steering...
do i still go for it without an air bag or power steering or do i look into anotehr car??

If they are ET38, they may just about fit on, its a bit of a "pot luck" thing as there is about 6mm of allowed misfit on the rear beam during manufacture at vuaxhall, so they will fit some corsas and not others.
If they were on the ibize with spacers then they are probably far higher than 38mm anyway, so you may be fine.
You cant use spacers on the corsa as the problem will be they stick too far out and spacers can only push the wheel further out not pull it back in.

they didnt have spacers on the ibiza... just found out the corsa doesnt have power steering
not sure if i want it now.. im not used to old cars!!! hehe..

a mate has had a couple of 16v corsa and they have been slightly slower than the 8v
the 16v are ecotech and are for economy and emmissions rather than power, to tune them, the EGR needs removing, the valves need opening up and then lnlet needs changing to a power box! (fancy name for a plenum!) however i do agree with you i feel that the ecotech engines are far more tunable than a red top or such like due to the design that has gone into them (just look at zetec tuning now!)
sorry mate not being funny but if you can do an engine swap using an XE for couple of hundred then i think you are scrimping somewhere! All the uprated parts alone such as mounts etc are more than that! then there is the engine which alone fetches anywhere in region of £250 - £500! oh and you got the problems of either modding the bulkhead to fit the origionbal power cap on the inlet of get one made to fit into a corsa!
try doubling that figure for the c20-let engine mate as the engine alone brings over £1k! then fitting etc! all not cheap with alot of bits needing custom making!
also the brakes which are commonly used are the 16v astra GTE ones or the astra GSi ones as these fit straight on! i think you will find the bigger ones off a cav or calibra are 5 stud so do not fit!
you can get the PCD of alloys etc altered to a certain degree, places advertize in the back of motorsport mags etc that offer this service however it prob wont be cheap and im not sure how far you could go with it!

As ive done both C20LET and C20XE conversions into novas, i suspect that i know far more about it than you do!
with regards to the brakes, ALL cavs and calibras that have 256mm disks are 4 stud, only the V6 and turbo models had 5 stud, and they have the larger disks (288mm)
Again, ive done these brake conversions on several cars, including converting my rwd mid engined nova to 288mm 5 stud all the way round recently.
So again im pretty confident i know EXACTLY what im talking about!

Katie, the corsa sri has a fairly low ratio rack anyway you wont really struggle without power steering.
Its only parellel parking you will even notice it in fact, once you are doing more than about 10mph its irrelevant

XRSi, are you aware that i fitted the engine and nitrous kit etc and set it up in my nova with which i won overall the nova shootout at the pod last year?

I honestly do know EXACTLY what is involved in the conversion.
