request a v5 from dvla, the dvla will then send the owner a letter saying some1 is applying for the v5, and they have a period to contact dvla to stop it, after that the v5 will get issued to person who applied.

that doesnt mean you can have them
ok so worth a try but even if you drove them about for 10 years you are still not the owner
if you intend to weight them in leave them alone they are not yours!!!

There's a car like that local to me, Mk4 Escort 3dr, parked on someones drive, knocked on the door, left notes, but heard nothing. Cars been stood since 2009 according to tax disc.
Have you tried their neighbours? Thats what I'm going to do on my next trip over there, see if they know anything.

i found this online, but i dont know if it's correct though
Yes, if you stick to the following procedure:
Transport the vehicle to a safe place, on private land.
Inform the police that you have done so, giving your name, address and phone number, the registration number and V.I.N. of the vehicle, and the current location of the vehicle.
Contact the D.V.L.A. with the same information.
(The police and the D.V.L.A. will then attempt to find the registered keeper).
If the registered keeper cannot be traced after 30 days, you can legally apply for a V5 in your own name.

Surprised the Volvo hasn't been towed by the police if it's not on private land (presumably when you say kerb you mean the roadside?). If it has been sorn does it still have to be kept on private land?

Really?
You *really* want a old volvo 850 thats not been used for 7 years and a old jag thats not been used for 10 years, you could probably pick up both cars for less than £500 each taxed & tested from local classifieds/ebay perfectly legally. It's probably going to cost you alot of money getting both those cars back on the road or are you just going to scrap them £££ ?
TBH i think this whole "loop hole" is a complete fucking joke, you have thirty days to claim your car that you have left on your own land before someone can "legally" steal it, i mean seriously wtf?!
What if the guy is in prison? ill? working abroad? gone travelling?

Which ever way you look at it, it is theft as you are removing property that doesnt belong to you. As Rich as said the V5 is not proof of ownership and there have been cases of people being prosecuted for this type of thing.

IMO it's pretty cuntish to just take a car, even though it may be legal, it's defo not moral.
My late fathers car is still parked on his drive, house has been empty for over a year, I'd be well hacked off if some twat just took it thinking he was being clever.

the neighbours said the house has been empty for 4 years but people have been getting inside it and trashing it, I don't think ill bother as the cars look good at first glance but I looked at the them properly and they are both rotten and not worth it.
