There's so many other factors involoved though.

Some places don't have a breakdown price.

Phone them up and it's just 6k for this, and 7k for that.

Other garages will run it by a breakdown on labour time, and will charge the correct hours at the labour rate.

Also, there are plenty of tuners (and this is no dig at all) that are able to charge far less because of the demographic, and lack of overheads. Working out of a barn/garage on your own land where you live is significantly cheaper than someone else who pays rent on a garage (aliong with the other bills).

Granted, prices have shifted down significantly, but what once was secret R&D work is now common knowledge to every man and his dog on the net........

deano, this was meant to be a lighthearted post.. so less of the
The roll of the eyes was for the PRICES Turbosystems charge and not aimed at you so calm down

Ive been to Turbosystems and know what an arrogant sod Tony can be at times

Like the time he wanted me to pay him Ł500 just to ask if Koni will make a set of coilovers to the same spec fitted on his Saph

Does anyone know if BBR is still going ? I seem to remember them being on a par with Tony for prices , always remembered their cars though

I wonder if they still got that black saph with dayglo BBR starchip down the side

IMO, how many 500 bhp cossies were about in 91??? Id put my last pound down that theres a lot more of them these days. If there more people buying the stuff then prices will come down.

Surely in 91 a 450 bhp plus cosworth was seen to be big horsepower, but now with the likes of Karl and Porky with there 600+ engines and those crazy norweigens with close to 800 bhp it has made the smaller bhp conversions much more affordable.

I more than likly stand to be corrected but its just my views as most people seem to have 350-400 bhp cars now

Not necessarily true my good man

Taken from Martins website

"Reyland Motorsport can build/rebuild Cosworth YB engines to ANY specification - standard, mild, and wild! - and would be happy to quote each person for their specific requirements. E.g. 605hp engine can be produced for less than most other tuners charge for a 520hp t4 8 inj unit."

I think whats happening is different parts which are cheaper and better are being discovered such as the Swedish plenum for instance ( Ł350 ) compared to the RS500 version which still go for Ł1K

Not only that , theres more cossie tuners today than before so that also has an effect on pricing

i had my hydraulic twin plate clutch fitted with slave cylinder, master cylinder and gear box installed and all drive shafts. i thought this was great value for money as it only took ten days from dropping the car off to picking it up again. martin also checked over the rest of the car and made sure i was doing the right things to make sure it all holds together. i think it's the turn of the japanese market to pay the high prices for the next seven years, then their prices will start to drop. the only problem with japanese parts, they have to be shipped a long, long way which adds to the cost.

What makes me laugh is that people are getting so protective over the what Martin posted....... if you ACTUALLY knew Tony as a person, do you really think he would give a fook...... answer is a catagorical NO! And I have Ł8k in receipts to back that up!

The guy is legend in his own lunch time!

Just don't ask him about women........ the next thing your know is that it's your 65th Birthday!

When i got my cossie rebuild i rang a load of places and all the quotes were well different,
MADs quote was a bit more exspensive, but came well recommended and included clutches etc,
SCS was the cheapest as it profits from economies of scale and Harvey said he turns around so many he can buy in bulk type of thing etc etc
A1 was very competitive IMO, and i wanted the 400bhp engine quote i got also but Kaz wouldnt let me
So in the end my choice was not driven by money or costs but realistically who i could trust with the car 100% which is why it went to Rod & Steve @ SCC.
