why does my cozy hate me?
After buying the car of my child hood dreams when i was 22 (4year ago) a sapphire cozy it just boots me in the balls every year it comes out. Not long after i brought it home from derby to lanarkshire, the head gasket went! Not end of the world,a few month later i melted all the pistons racing an aston martin vanquish!! due to a boost (fault) boost was through the roof but i was non the wiser because i never had one b4. FULL rebuild it got after that,no expence spared, only thing i never done was valve guides,so after getn it bk on road i was concerned of abit of smoke on overrun,so head back off, bronze guides, ford stem seals (another) new headgasket and all was well. Got out last year and i ripd up a cupla clutches so got a fancy clutch from matt lewis and was good again. I taxd the bastard, polished and waxd the arse off it beginin of april (all this doesnt include bodywork/paint btw) done 30miles and it spun a big end shell!!!!!! Why why why.... All i ever do is give it time, money, effort and love..it gets treated better than the wife and it just lets me down.its all starting to piss me off. Not to mention the fact all my mates whare are vauxhall daft, jap crap daft, are all ripn me a new asshole

Cossies are bullet proof if left at standard spec or tuned correctly/professional.....
So much owners, you never know what happened in the past with the engine. Treatment is OK, but please warm up / cool down the engine carefully.
Some tuning is a complete balls-up.......

It Wasnt Me!
Wouldn't have thought you'd have any issues with any of Arthurs work, been using them for years for countless jobs and never had a problem!
Good luck with the rebuild, may be able to get you a re-ground crank done by arthur if you're interested.

Did you check the bearing clearances with a plastigauge before building it up to check clearance?!
As said the yb isnt exactly a technical marvel and easy to make reliable even at big bhp.
But unless you get someone who works on them day in and out to do your engine work and tuning and do regular checks and maintenance the their always gonna cost money!!
Not that they don't anyway lol

It's a kit you can buy, I got mine off eBay basically it's a thin waxy strip and you put it on each journal and when you tighten the caps etc down to torque it 'squashes' then you use the gauge provided to measure it and it tells you how big or small your clearances are!! Then just check them against the specs in the service manual

My assembly procedure is to do the following:
1) Measure all the tunnel sizes for both bigs and mains. It's not been unknown for manufacturers to use oversize bearings in oversize tunnels
2) The bearing crush height needs to be checked for each journal. If it's too slack the bearing is likely to spin.
See below on how to do it.
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=2...height&f=false
Basically when you tighten up the bearing cap the shell inserts need to be "squeezed" this not only grips them firmly in place but makes them perfectly round. If it's not holding them properly you have loose AND oval bearings!
3) Check the bearing clearances with plastigauge. See here on how to do it and available from Burton Power, Frost Auto etc
http://www.plastigauge.co.uk/
Only once you have done all of the above can you be sure that everything is as it should be.
