Default Help - fitting Focus roof bars!

Hi all

Am trying to fit a set of genuine Ford roof bars to my Focus. I've got all the hardware but they are second hand and came with no instructions.

I've removed the plastic covers on the plastic rails on the roof and was expecting to see some bolt holes underneath to screw the bolts in to, but there doesn't appear to be, there's just a thick bead of painted over sealant Don't really want to go digging bout in the sealant to find the bolt holes in ase they aren't there!

Anyone done this before and know what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers

Rich

Just done the same thing to mine and it's like Dunccoss said. I used a small flat blade screw driver and dug the sealer out carefully to find the cross head blanking plug that's under there ! Don't know if its me been paranoid but when I take the bars off now I fit a stainless button headed Allen bolt with a smidge of grease and a small rubber gasket/seal in all 4 of the holes before a put the plastic covers back on ! The reason been the covers aren't water tight and the hole you have to dig out makes a perfect puddle for water to sit in probably wouldn't cause any trouble but I just thought it was a crap idea !!!

Thanks for the replies guys, went digging with the screwdriver earlier

What an utterly crap design by Ford, I will definately be plugging the holes up properly when I remove the bars. Don't suppose you know the thread size for the bolts do you?

Cheers

Just squirt some Silcone sealant over the holes when you remove the bolt as that will stop any water getting in plus you can just pull it out easy if and when you use them again
But agree crsp design

Angry ford focus estate

i have a ford focus estate 99

there is no roof bars or roof rack on the car and the rubber seals along the roof gutter do not have any removable sections where you would normally attach the roof rack anyone got any ideas of how you install a roof rack to this car ?

Open door, pull top rubber seal should be a plastic screw there. My MK2 mondeo of same year was same and my mk4 is too.
