Default cutting out ,,anyone any ideas

hi.
my trusty work car has developed a problem.randomly cutting out when driving.
if i dip the clutch while still rolling gear down and try to bump it it wont start, but if i dip clutch when still rolling and start with key, it will start.?

could this be some sort of sensor?

car is a mondeo 1.8 endura de

loads of fuel in tank ,,water,, oil etc all topped up.
thanks nick

I came across a problem like this on another car problem page ages ago, i could be talking out of my watsit but it was down to a bad earth somewhere, dipping the clutch would allow the engine to earth through the clutch cable, take the pressure of the cable and the car would lose its earth.
