Default Buying a car from Northern Ireland?

Ive been on the hunt for a Mini Cooper S for a few weeks now for the Mrs and have came across http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01214461494511

Phoned the guy this morning to find out were he was as it only told me the car was 92 miles from my postcode, an English gent answered the phone so I ask where he was base, he then tells me he is in N.Ireland.

Im no stranger to travelling the length of the country to buy a car but im a bit weary about the whole thing of going over on the plane myself to have a look at a 2004 MCW for £3k from an English man in N.Ireland. I googled his trading title on the advert and it didnt come back with anything which didnt help matters either? But it does say in the advert finance is an option so he must be trading a fair bit.

Does anyone have experience from buying cars from Ireland or is there anyone on here from N.Ireland that can help me make my mind up about going over to buy the car as I think I am over thinking things big time and I hear all these horror stories of cars getting cloned over there and then sold back to mainland to then find out and it gets seized?

Any feedback welcome.

Cheers!

Your last part makes no sense to me. I’ve not heard about that happening now. What information did he give you over the phone? Address name etc. I can have him checked him out. I dare say he going to rip you off to be honest.

Regardless it would be simply plane over and boat back all normal. Did a run to England not so long ago there with a mate that was buying a Civic.

Do you mean to say he isnt going to rip me off? or he is?

I dont have a problem about the traveling bud not one bit, I just wanted some feedback as I have never had the pleasure of dealing with anyone from N.Ireland and apologizes if it sounds like Im painting a picture of loads of crooked folk cloning cars but this is why I have started the thread to get a bit of knowledge and positive feedback off people like yourself.

I spoke to him briefly this morning but he was driving and I was working so I called him back earlier and another English lad answered the phone but he didnt really know much about the car, I asked them If they were car traders and if they had a sales garage and if so where about.

He replied with 'its in Bangor' I asked where about in Bangor, 'in the centre'
then he said we sell a few cars.

By this point I was struggling to understand his accent so asked if "his colleague" could call me back so I could find out more about the car. Still waiting on the phone call.

All I know is on the ad his trade name is DEZ TRADE and he is in the centre of Bangor.

I'm in Northern Ireland and myself and my friends have bought plenty of cars from the mainland.

Don't see why it'd be any more hassle the other way round.

Where is the car exactly?

All I know is its in the centre of Bangor Paul im waiting on a phone call back from the guy I dealt with this morning who was a bit more knowledgeable about the car. The guy I just spoke to before was very vague about most things I asked him. His ad on autotrader says his trade name is DEZ TRADE?

Bangor isnt exactly a big place.

Although TBH, should you even need to travel for such a car ? There's bound to be thousands of hairdressers in England/Scotland selling them too ?

There are dodgy buyers and sellers everywhere though. I'd be a lot more cautious about buying from England than anywhere. Ive been led astray by far too many sellers there and it's a bloody expensive wasted trip.
Also had one in Glasgow, although fortunately that didnt work out quite as an expensive. Seller was still a lying cunt though.

I missed a 230 bhp Cooper S Works in Glasgow last week by 3hrs, there are plenty for sale but people are a bit outrageous with the price tags so it really boils down to the right car coming up at the right time at the right price. Ive now only got 4 weeks to get her a car for going back to work so I need to pick her "hairdressers car" ASAP. You are right though there are dodgy dealers all over the UK.

This was my main reason for starting this thread, to try and work out if the boy was a known car dealer or someone to steer clear of.

He took deposit on the car off someone ten minutes after your last post Paul, I waited for the call back heard nothing so I rang him back up to find out exactly where he was located and his trading name but he had taken a deposit 5 minutes before I called. Nightmare like!

Thanks for the offer though it is much appreciated

I really should have put this thread up yesterday

Just received this PM

Hi,

my name is Detective Sgt Gary Hutchings from Surrey Police.

I am currently investigating an incident whereby someone has purchased a Mini Cooper S off of the above people who stated they were in Bangor Ireland. I am trying to establish the legitimacy of this company and whether the vehicle was/is genuinly for sale.

I read your post about buying from Ireland which appears to be the same vehicle.

Would be kind enough to let me know the mobile contact number that you had for the person at Dez Trade and whether any of the persons you spoke to gave you a name at all?

Obviously there is some more to the msg which is identifying the authenticity of the officer involved in this.

Just goes to show you, if it seems too good to be true it usually is.

Thank fuck I didnt jump on the plane to go and get this Mini.
